Kitty Cat Hat
I completed this hat a very long time ago but it took me 5 months to learn how to make pom poms. Rah Rah!
I made the hat from my very favorite yarn in the world....Mission Falls 1824 Cotton. How can you not love this yarn? If you don't love this yarn there is a cold dead place where your heart should be and I pity you. Pity you.
I used this pattern and adjusted it a little to make it the 'Kitty' hat featured in this book.
About 5 of the 10 things I have ever knit have been in 1824. Including this great sweater.
I love my daughter, but she has the same photo issues I do.
Poor, poor thing.
It's ridiculously difficult to get her to smile and look like her cute self, in general. So I did the best I could. (Check out our 'Snaggle Tooth' daughter! I love that big gap.)
So cute! Daughter and hat.
I have a very dusty Learn to Knit book that has yet to be opened. I told myself knitting would be calming but I have yet to find the time to calm down and learn.

That hat almost makes me like cats ...
Mittens. I like knitting mittens--I use these books of traditional northeastern mitten patterns from Maine and the Maritimes etc., for making double-knit mittens which looks hard but it isn't. you know, if you knit repeats of this pattern in your second color:
Row 1: x
Row 2: xxx
Row 3: x
(In knitspeak, I think you'd say it's a 3/1 repeat pattern, alternating which color is dominant)
it comes out as rows of fleur-de-lis. Really. It's true ...

I have a daughter with the same photographic issues. She's so beautiful I just stare at her, but her pics do not usually show it.

I so covet the kitten hat. Absolutely adorable, especially on cutie Madison.
I'm a new knitter and just purchased Stitch n' Bitch last week. After trying 8 billion other how-to knitting books, I can honestly say that this is the only one worth the money. If it can teach me to knit, it can teach anyone.

Poppy...have you seen, Stitch Guide?
The videos are very very helpful. I can look at them and understand what I'm doing. Looking at 2D pictures does absolutely nothing for me.

I *love* the hat. Love it!!!
Are you going to make yourself a matching one? (Because Mother/Daughter devil hats days sound like crazy fun!)

Of course, I meant Mother/Daughter Kitty Cat Hat Days. Is it my fault that I'm always thinking about the devil?

A- am I going to have to rebuke you again?
**I think the matching devil hats would be fantastic.

Awww, how cute! I wish I could knit things other than square objects (blankets, scarves). I hope to break out the needles before Christmas! My dream is to make myself a poncho...is that achievable? :)

Um... for xmas, can i have a kitty hat? with a matching scarf (because the Bonster's cat peed on the fabulous green one you made me a few years ago, and it's in bad shape.)and if jillbur teaches you mittens, i could really use those too.
Or, if you want, you could just show me how to purl. because the "Learn to Knit" book was unfortunately just the one stitch.
Miao.

PS- is it just me or are all your photos coming out pretty dark lately?
Posted by: Lil' Sis | 2004.07.26 at 05:23 PM
Dear Little Sister,
I have big surprises for you. My pom pom skills are giving me trouble. You should just come over and make your own damn pom poms.
Also, my pictures are coming out dark because I hate using the flash so if I take pictures in the evening in the house, they are dark or totally washed out like this

That's the best hat I've ever seen. Makes me want to learn to knit so I can make matching hats for myself and my daughter. I learned how to crochet last weekend (because I gave up on knitting), and all I've managed so far is a ridiculously uneven baby scarf. I'll keep trying. Again, great work on the hat!

she so looks like you!

Love them both!
Is there no end to your talents? First you share the beauty of your writing and now this knitting. How bout that snaggle tooth girl too? Wonderful!

Is the Kitten Hat woman still out there that knitted that lovely hat for her daughter? I admit at knitting I am a neophyte, but if you could email me or post on this site the pattern for that adorable hat, I would be ever so greatful! I'd love to try to make one for my new niece for Christmas.
Cheers!
