I almost can't believe this.
Oh, Choppable, who knew what kind of joy (and terror) you could spread. I love you Choppable, in spite of myself I do. Well I also love you because if I don't, I'm afraid of what you might do to me in the night as I sleep.
I almost can't believe what I'm about to write is true. I almost think I'm just making this up for comic effect. But I'm not!
MY COMPUTER IS DEAD!!!! AGAIN!!!!!
This is absolutely ludicrous. The rage oozing from my body is toxic. I'm just beside myself with this situation. How can Apple do this to me? How?
I bought this frivolous piece of equipment and now it keeps dying and it seems like the least it could do, since it was an enormous waste of money, is work....all the time!
It bought it in July of 2003.
It died in March of 2004. Then it died again in September. That's right, just under ONE MONTH AGO.
I think it's time for Apple to replace my machine. We'll see if they see it my way.
Until then, all I'll be doing is whining and complaining.
**Update: Yes it's the logic board. again. Yes I have the extended warranty. Sending my computer into the shop, on average, every six months is totally unacceptable. Why isn't Apple replacing this shoddy piece of crap? They've attempted to fix it 3 times so far, obviously it's not getting fixed.
Isn't this really bad business? I'm still oozing rage.
is it a white ibook? i have one that i absolutely adore and has never done me wrong. however, mine was purchased in april of 2002. i do have a friend who purchased one in the summer of 2003, as well, and has been plagued by the exact same problem...i want to say that they said her mainframe was completely fucked and said that it was a manufacturers defect, but that it does happen to ALL the ibooks from that era. so, yeah, i think they should replace your machine, damn skippy. and don't let em give you any crap, sister!

Surely the lemon laws apply here? I'm hoping my iBook is newer than the range of machines with the screwed up logic boards.

hey, maybe you can get them to cough up a Powerbook G4 or something.

Do you think Choppable is getting you back for something?
Posted by: Terri | 2004.10.31 at 08:55 PM
Oh shit. I had my ibook repaired twice this summer. Purchased May of 2003. I blamed my 2 year old. I assumed he had dropped it. So weird. Jesus I hope it doesn't break again. If you find out yours was recalled or something, post so the rest of us can figure it out.

Gah! That completely sucks. I think you need to raid your children's Halloween candy to soothe yourself while you wait to hear back from Apple.

I love Apple computers - but as you may have already figured out, when buying Apple stuff, you MUST ALWAYS BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (at least with Apple you have a year to do so.)
Uh, you did buy the warranty, right? If you did, they should make it easy for you.
I very much hope you have NO trouble getting a replacement; don't give up! Demand support! Call the corporate headquarters! Insist on talking to management!
Good luck and thank you for all the wonderful stories you share with us!

Yikes! Sorry to hear that. Maybe you just got a dud. I have 2 PowerBooks and a G4, plus maintained 5 G4's and 4 G5's at work, and have no problems with any of them. Hope everything works out for you...

From the apple support site:
"...iBook models manufactured between May 2001 and October 2003 that are experiencing specific component failures."
"...serial numbers in the following range: UV117XXXXXX to UV342XXXXXX."
Mine's included in that range so I feel your pain, mine's been in 4 times so far, and every now and then it acts up so I know that number 4 was not the charm.

ps: if you didn't purchase the applecare extended warranty (or it has run out), and your ibook is in that serial number range, the new logic board is still a free replacement since it's a manufacturer defect.

Your apple and my volkswagen are truly kindred (evil)spirits. Guess who spent time in the shop again last week? Yup, me and my car.
You know I'm feeling your frustrations.

Can't believe I'm recommending this because their service sucks but, get your next machine at Best Buy. I warranteed mine, and after numerous visits to the geek squad, it qualified for it's own lobotomy and a replacement after 4 visits I believe. Now I've got me a brand new HP and we are in love . . .

Cassandra, my head exploded when I read this....a suggestion I bring a PC into my home!!?? No no no!
Much like Rebecca (who commented above) has a love for Volkswagens which knows no bounds...even in the face of abuse by a machine.
I too am a battered woman when it comes to the Apple. Of course I'm not telling the customer service team I'm working with this. As far as they're concerned I'm about to jump ship.
Shh...don't tell them.

I hope you DO realize that Choppable is behind this.

I think Choppable wants a blog of his own!

I feel your pain. My G5 is also in the shop with a dead logic board. There's no logic in this!!! What did we do to them????
