It's only the 24th.
We are paid on the first and the fifteenth of each month.
I have a 'just recently paid' mood and a 'not recently paid mood'.
I'll give you one guess which this is.
Sorry, I have no energy for anything more tonight.
3 more resumes out today. I'm going to be working at 7-11 aren't I? Aren't I?
Nahhh...don't dig out your polyester pants yet.lol

Christ, how's this for a sob story: The wife and I BOTH get paid once a month. Once. A. Month. Last working day of the month. No good.

Naw, not 7-11, the one near our house is always getting held up! Know the feeling, also out there (almost) job hunting, want to be able to talk to real life adults on a regular basis again AND be able to afford some of the extras in life. All the best to you, really enjoying your blog.

Keep the faith... the right job hasn't come along, yet.

I want to boost your spirits, but mostly I am thinking that I am glad that I don't have to look for a job. Looking for jobs, resumes, the whole thing really sucks. I know something will work out SOON! Good luck, seriously, good luck.

i will be unemployed as well as of this thursday, and what am i doing?
blowing all my savings on a vacation.
jesus h.
hang in there.
someone, somewhere, needs you to be their employee, they just don't know it yet.

I have a coworker who's always saying, "Do we get paid this Friday or next?" I tell him that if he can't remember, he's making too much money.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who suffers from mood-altering paychecks. Fortunately, I have a third mood... WOOHOO! Commission check! Without that one I think I would have gone off the deep end long ago.
I wish I had advice for you on the job search. Are you crafty enough to sell things online? Please just say no to 7-11.

I was laid off 2 years ago next month. Since then I have been working at a job that I really don't like just to be able to pay my mortgage. But finally, finally, I have found what I believe to be my perfect job (which I will be starting in just under 2 weeks). So hang in there. I was ready to give up many times, but if you keep looking odds are you will find your "perfect job" too. Don't give up!
BTW, I love your blog. You're so damn funny!

My husband and I both have the same set of moods. We also have a "We just got paid but we must spend half on this month's rent and the other half on bills" mood, which is very bleak indeed.
Thank god I get my tax refund this week, or I would be completely screwed for my upcoming maternity leave. Short-term disability won't cover me- it seems my pregnancy was a pre-existing condition. Ugh.
Hang in there. At worst you could always do what I do and get a job working with the developmentally disabled. It keeps life interesting, and it beats the hell out of 7-11. You seem like an incredibly intelligent person, and I'm sure you'l find something soon. Good luck!

After an expensive B.A. and lots of jobs and near-careers under the bridge, I'm going back to school in the fall for two years to become a dental hygienist. My friends all think I'm insane, but the pay is great, and you can work one day, two days, full time, whatever you want. Perfect for a mom (which I'm not yet, but still).
Sorry if I sound like a nut... I'm not necessarily telling you "hey! You should clean teeth!" but what I'm trying to say is that after you stew on it long enough, it will just come to you one day -- "hey! This is something I could do!" You'll find your Bliss, Suburban. Have faith!
P.S. While in school, I will no doubt be working at the 7-11...

I hear ya, sister. I had a baby 3 months ago, and, remarkably, no job or free day care is in the offing. Oh and the car needs a $1000 gas line and the baby is growing out of the only car seat we have for her. Whee!
All I can say is, please keep posting about stuff like this; I am surrounded by kept women and single people with lotsa dough.
be well!

The good thing is that Yukon Jack goes really well in a red slurppy. I remember this from high school.
Okay here is where I found my quasi job. School district. I am a part time secretary in a junior high. Mind numbingly boring. There are days I pray for jury duty. But it gives us a few hundered we need a month, and I am done by 3 and I have the same holidays as my kids, and off in the summer.
The other option is subbing. I think it must suck, but you do have the option of working when you want.
Next year I want something good. This year I have something tolerable.
Posted by: Lisa | 2005.01.25 at 11:34 AM
I've heard subbing's not half bad, especially in that you can choose when you don't wanna work.
There's always temping, too, speaking of jobs you don't have to show up for if you're not feeling work-y that day.

you need to become a professional blogger. that would rock!
i'm sitting here...wondering what kind of work you are looking for. as i have just joined your site, i am not familiar with your expertise (besides writing). i'm certain that you expertise cannot be in telling people they are "ready to go on pump 7".

Yep, it was sure nice when one of us got paid every single Friday! Shouldn't make a difference in theory, so why does it seem to? I guess we need the constant gratification. Good luck with the job hunt!
Posted by: Zach | 2005.01.25 at 12:12 PM
Hey, I've got that not recently paid feeling, too!
Posted by: Renee | 2005.01.25 at 01:47 PM
Which answer doesn't get me smacked?

Screw it - skip the middle man - just go work at a good liquor store. (CursingMama is currently between paychecks also and would like a nice bottle of Captain Morgan to keep her company tonight while Mr. Motorcycle naps in his chair)
I know you will get the right job and your workplace will not deal with slurpees, or have "Super" in their name.

Libraries? They're quiet, that's a plus. Any medical libraries nearby? Or law libraries? Or plain old normal libraries? Can you tell I like libraries? Quiet. Lots of part-time jobs. Minimal stress. First dibs on the incoming good books. That's my vote.
Posted by: Pam | 2005.01.25 at 04:22 PM
I have those moods, too. The "I have money in my account" mood, and the "If I spend one more dollar I'll be bouncing checks" mood. I hate it!
Posted by: Christine | 2005.01.25 at 08:13 PM
Cursingmama has the right idea.
Speaking as another person whose moods are like Christine's... Fuckin' A. May we all be healed. Or at least marry rich.
