To Answer Your Questions.
Greg needed to know:
"What kind of bread?? What kind of cheese??"
Ciabatta. Cheddar.
Mamaloo would like to know:
"Why San Antonio?"
The Alamo, duh.
Phil would like to know a few things. Now!
"(a) why San Antonio and (b) what else will you do there and (c) how will you make sure that Max and Madison don't sneak into your checked baggage while you're not looking."
(a) The Alamo, and more specifically the basement of the Alamo. Also my dearest friend who abandoned me for Texas (I'm mostly over it now) and her newly remodeled guest house with a bed larger than my own and a pool, with a hot tub, and she has SUN. (b) I will be sleeping, sleeping, watching tv (whatever I choose to watch), drinking, eating, sleeping, floating in the hot tub, laying poolside, getting a pedicure (!!!), sleeping, reading, not waking up 50 times a night with the hacking ball of phlegm next to me, bonding. (c) I've tied them both up so they will not slip into my bag.
On the same theme Jen would like to know:
"why san antonio? and will you be incommincado whilst gone?"
San Antonio to see relocated family. I should be able to connect with my laptop, they have wireless and so do the neighbors apparently (shhhh.....) because last time I could pick up a second signal in the guest house thing. Otherwise they have a computer and I'll have my camera and all the time in the world!
ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD!
Which is something I don't have now because I need to pack and go to the bank and pack and do laundry and change kitty litter and play with Max and....
Hey! More insipid Mommy Blogging!
Another cheese sandwich please.

WARNING... the Alamo is right smack dab next to a very large shopping mall. Where they sell things. For money. Wear blinders and/or stay in the basement. And have fun.

Have a great time! It's the perfect month to go to Texas. Great weather, but not enough of it to suffocate you with a cloud of humidity so thick you can't swallow your breath.

I have met more people from Michigan since we moved to texas than I knew when we lived in Michigan (slight exageration....but, wow). It's 80 outside now, but our pool is only 71. Get out the SPF and enjoy!

So does this mean no Chicago? *sniff*

Enjoy your vacation!! You deserve it =)

Alright! San Antonio is really nice right now. We had a little rain last night, but it just cooled things down a bit.
The Alamo is nice, but the Riverwalk is great. We're transplants here with the Air Force and we spent our first month here being "tourists".
You're going to have fun. I would offer to show you around, but #1 I am a stranger (though harmless) and #2 I shall be pushing out a baby quite soon. (2cm dilated, 50% effaced this morning)
Have a great trip

The basement of the Alamo. Heh.
Have a good time...

While you're down there in the basement at the Alamo be sure to look for Pee Wee's bicycle.

Define down time:
My friend Joe just called to complain that, what with one thing and another, he had to sit in the Chicago airport ALL BY HIMSELF for FOUR HOURS.
Poor guy. What will he do, read a (whole) BOOK, or drink a COFFEE (can I have a sip? are you done with it? can I blow bubbles?), or just sit and gaze into space, having a whole thought? Sadly, he cannot fold laundry, or empty the dishwasher, or put all the tinkertoys back in the big tinkertoy tup and all the little bally back on the ball dropper. Poor, poor guy.
But he is a Dad...and he just doesn't get it. I, personally, would get on a plane JUST to get to sit in the airport all by myself for four hours.
Please think a whole thought for me.

I have to say...I had NO questions.
What kind of confusion could there be?
YOU
ALONE
SOMEWHERE WARM AND DRY
LARGE BED
SLEEP LATE
EATING ADULT FOOD
Anything else is like Whipped cream on top your mocha. The mocha is already so damn good you don't really need the whip cream, but what the heck! Bring it on!
We expect full details upon arriving home.

Well, isn't THAT a fine how-do-you-do. Now I'm hungry.

I went to college in San Antonio. Have to say that it's a great place. If you're up for some good eats be sure to hit Alamo Cafe or EZs or anything in the Quarry (which didn't exist when I was in college but is now a dining, shopping, movie viewing mecca).
enjoy!

ciabatta... man, I hate you. So mean. I had tapioca bread for lunch. It tastes like styrofoam & tears up your gums.
I would suggest using some of that pool-lounging, uninterrupted time to maybe start an outline for a future book (or flesh it out if you've done that already).
I have to go watch for an ambulance for one of my clients. God, I need a vacation!

Hey, my sister lives in San Antonio and I loved it when I visited her last summer. Unfortunately, she's in Iraq right now, but my wonderful 10-year-old nephew is living up here in Royal Oak with us while she's gone. If you take pictures and post them, then I can show him a bit of his homeland! I think of my sister and San Antonio whenever I hear Los Lonely Boy's, "How far is heaven"...I remember sitting with her in the hot sun out by the pool sipping margaritas...ahh, have a great trip!

welcome to Texas!
OK, if you have time, try to eat at Las Palomas on Broadway - sit outside, have some margaritas, but DEFINITELY have the Tres Leches dessert - and Rosarios down in King William - puffy tacos. Don't go near Chinese food - no matter what they say, it is NOT good in SA. Great burgers can be found at Cheesy Jane's on Broadway, also...
Anyway, have a blast, you deserve it!

I am jelous! I want a vacation! WAAAHHH! Hope you have a great time and I love your blog. :0)

You really should go to Hooters in downtown SA (in the mall right next to the Alamo). Find the manager who's name is Paul (big tall guy who looks like a he's from Wisconsin) and tell him that Pamela Anderson from Senor Frogs Puke Fest sent you and you want some free wings and fried pickles (fried pickles rock!).
Feel free to beat up a Hooter's Girl, too. Those beotches with their little size zero orange shorts. Gah! Just pretend their shirts say Mom's Club instead of Hooters.
have fun!

OMG. you mentioned me by name.
I know you don't know me, but today, I thought of you. I thought of you because my auntie sent me Baby Einstein flashcards for my baby. And we were shuffling through them and I was going, "This is a cat. Cat goes, Meow! Meow!" and "This is a truck. Truck goes, Vroom Vroom!"
and then there was one with a robot. So I said to my 9 month old, "This is a robot. Robot goes, wash my underwear by hand! and don't dry my jeans all the way."
Have a fucking fabulous time. Do they make margaritas there? Texas-sized ones? God, margaritas in the sun...

Why thank you! And while you're at the Alamo, can you ask them why I still haven't gotten my rental-car overcharge settled up?
Make sure to be awake for that pedicure. I want details.

Sinda is right--Rosario's down in King William is AMAZING. Mmmm . . . ceviche and shrimp nachos. I'm jealous just thinking about it, and I'm typing this from Venice, Italy, if that gives you any idea how seriously good that food is. And the peach margaritas!!!
Also, there's a great little burrito place on Bitters if you're in the 78232 zip code. It's called Habanero's, and it is the first place we always go when we go back to SATX. If you go there, ask for the owner (Steve) and tell him that Bonnie in Germany says hi. Oh, and eat the steak nachos!

'There's no basement at the Alamo!'
Hope you find some peace and plenty of relaxation!

You know how much of a dork I am? I own Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. On DVD. Yes, that means I bought it recently because my VHS copy was nearly worn out.
Feel free to make fun of me.
