Unsolicited.
If you hate your face in general, you may not want to get a haircut less than 24 hours before you leave the country.
Also you may want to tell the nice man doing your hair cut you don't want it to be too, Dutch Boy, because you're going to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, where they speak Dutch and God how cliche can one blogger be?
It appears that every human being in the world thinks that a 'Stacked Bob' is the most flattering cut for me. I hate the stacked bob more than makes sense.
I just hope Alice and her dad like the stacked bob.
Oh Liss....
I am sure you look darling, even though I have never heard of the stacked bob. I am guessing a bob with layers?
Have a wonderful time!
Remember I have a (very very very small) winery in Napa? Come visit in June.

Oh no! It can't be that bad, can it? I'm sure you look beautiful!

you are gorgeous and hot and could be bald and it wouldn't matter. so it has been written, so it shall be done.

I have never heard of a stacked bob, but you are so freaking cute I am sure it looks great.
And the Dutch, they will love it.

Stacked Bob? Can't wait to see the pictures! I'm sure you look Gor-Juss!

Haircuts cause me nothing but heartache, which is why I haven't had one in 2 1/2 years.
But, at least YOU can say you're stacked!!

Just keep your head upside-down...from what I recall Madison thinks your hair looks better that way.
Alice will be too busy giving you non-akward hugs to notice your hair anyway.

What JenB said.
Though I have to say, Stacked Bob tripped me up for a second: I had a mental image of a really ripped, muscly guy named Bob. Like, the trainer on The Biggest Loser. He's a Stacked Bob.

Ouch. Oh Melissa, I feel your pain. Last May I got a "spur of the moment, cheer me up" haircut. Decided to be daring, and bold and go for something new. Came out with a 1970's rocker/lesbian shag. It was awful.
I'm sure Amsterdamn will be far too dazzled by your lovely smile and brilliant personality to even notice the bad hair.

i know of which you speak. hey, why not get a hot cut IN amsterdam? seriously, seek out the hippest joint in town and have them fix it. then when you get back and you get compliments you can say oh so casually, "oh, yes, thank you. I got it done in amsterdam last week..."
Posted by: mamaloo | 2006.02.23 at 03:15 PM
heh... heh heh. You said stacked.

I am sure your hair looks great. Have a great trip! And may I reiterate how good the french fries with mayo are.
BTW, all the talk about Detroit and reliance on fading industry and wanting out has me thinking. Have you guys looked into university communities? We are at Penn State and while my husband took a little less money to be here, there is tremendous stability, great benefits and tons of vacation time, and generally lower property prices and cost of living. And most of the Big Ten universities have very heavy duty advertising and marketing budgets and are dying for people with real, corporate experience to give them the edge over other institutions (competition is tight in academia too). I am sure Michigan, MSU, etc. would have opportunities -- my husband has some connections at many of the Big Ten schools and we would be happy to help if you are into the idea. Now, of course, I'd love for you to move to PSU so I could have a new friend! (didn't mean to sound desperate, seriously)

when I was in high school I worked as a busboy at Russ' restaurant. if you have ever been to Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, or Holland you have probably seen one there. The original Russ' restaurant is in Holland and they had telephones on the tables so you could call the kitchen and tell you their order. This was to bypass the waitress so you didn't have to tip. oh, so dutch.
Russ' mascot is much like your dutch boy, although without the brush. He wears wooden shoes and the like. One time they made me dress up like him and hold a sign to attract street traffic to the special $4.99 fried chicken dinner.
Most humiliating day of my life.

Stacked bobs are cool and modern and yet so retro. I bet it looks good. Are you going to post a pic?? I'd like to see it.
PS: Regarding getting your hair cut before travel or any other important event...as a rule it shouldn't be done but as another rule, I always do it. And naturally, I always regret it.

I think your hair always looks sleek, smooth and shiny. I have to flat iron my frizzy mop everyday to get it to look even halfway decent. I bet it looks better than you think it does.

I don't know what a stacked bob is but it sounds hateable. I always make the mistake of cutting my hair before leaving the country. The one time I cut my hair in the country (in one of those so called third world countries) it was the best haircut of my life. Maybe you can go crazy and get a recut over there in Hollandia. But you have an awesome face so I doubt you look bad at all.

You are going to have one awesome time in DutchBoyLand. Shake your cool hairdo and bat your eyelashes and they will love you!

I once cut my hair, drastically, 2 days before I left for college. I'm sure they heard the screams several states away at my new dorm. BUT, I'm also sure that yours is fine! Have a fantastic European Vacation!

I had my hair cut like that in high school, senior year, right before senior pictures. I feel your pain. I really, really do.
It was so bad, my econ teacher referred to me as "Dutch Boy" for the rest of the semester. Ugh!
Hope you're enjoying the Netherlands!

I, too, wear my hair cut in a Stacked Bob, and have for many years. It's the low-maintenance that keeps me loyal to this haircut. I tried an Long-N-Layered Eddie Van Halen and a Wispy Meg Ryan, both of which required a surprising amount of time and effort and hair products.
Stacked Bob is a comb and go, looks good clean or dirty kinda hairstyle, which is very handy on those crappy mornings when you oversleep and have to volunteer in your kid's class and have no clean socks and your toddler has taken your toothpaste and you have nothing to serve the kids for breakfast but over-ripe fruit and stale cereal. (Or is that just me that happens to regularly?)
