Request:
Thank you all for signing up for a typekey account. I've turned off comment moderation because Logan was a little overwhelmed with the task of approval. I'm leaving Typekey enabled because I think it's a worthwhile tool.
The only downside I've seen is that sometimes people don't fill out their profile and when you don't I can't tell anything about you from your profile page like, for example, your website address.
This is one of the best ways to get traffic to your site if you're a newish blogger: you leave a comment at someone's site, someone reads your comment and likes it and so they click through to your site. I found at least four of my favorite reads this way.
Plus, I like to read new sites and with Flogging Baby it's kind of my job to read all the parenting blogs my eyes can handle and then a few more. If you can just put at least your website address on your profile I think we'll all benefit greatly.
(Annoying aside: why doesn't my website show up on my own Typekey account? I have a Typepad account but the only options are adding some of my Typelists. What I'd do, what I did actually, is add my web site to the 'one line bio' area of the page.)
We'd also benefit if I could, I don't know, write something here. I'm on it.

Um, well, hi. Just making a comment for the sake of making a comment for the comments. :)

Oh, my Typekey is very outdated.
This is my site now: http://meltingmama.typepad.com

I don't even have the option of "Online I can be found at."
it only let's me choose from my typelists and none of those are my website.
Annoying.

I have the same issue with my Typekey account. I spent more than an hour one night last week trying to figure it out; eventually I had to go lie down with a margarita.
Posted by: the happy homewrecker | 2006.03.14 at 10:02 PM
I think I had to enter my web address in a weird spot as well. Anyway, I hope it's filled out the right way. Thanks for letting us know about the Andrew Shue thing. And by the way, I wondered if we could hear more about your trip to Amsterdam... with photos please, since I won't be able to visit anytime in the next... decade.
Posted by: ChristyD | 2006.03.14 at 10:40 PM
OK, this is really weird. I JUST signed up for a typekey account, like a few hours ago, because I am a fledgling blogger and need to communicate (checkout my site http://urban-mom.blogspot.com/). I had to stop in the middle of writing my comment to you about your previous post from 3/13 to feed the kids, get them to bed, etc. Then I come back to the computer, try to post my comment, and there is this new posting of yours! I'm a bit baffled, like this is some Twilight Zone episode. Or maybe it's just this stomach bug I caught from my son clouding my mind - I imagine 2 days of throwing up can do that to a person's brain. As a matter of fact, I need to hit up the bathroom again. Thanks for the great blog!
Posted by: urban-mom | 2006.03.14 at 10:44 PM
I just wanted to say that I love your site. That is all.

Fine. I signed up. Now I don't have anything witty to say

Posted by: Andrea In Japan | 2006.03.14 at 11:48 PM
I didn't even know we were supposed to have profiles on Typekey. whoops. thanks.

yo. i'z here.
Posted by: Alissa Eng | 2006.03.14 at 11:57 PM
Thank YOU for this post. I too, had been confused about how Typekey worked, since I registered a profile a while back but never saw where I was supposed to put my blog address. I just went back, poked around, and there it was. So I updated - I think. Anything more in depth than Blogger and I'm a bit slow to the party.
Posted by: Lori MacBlogger | 2006.03.15 at 12:04 AM
Simply put, I didn't before because I am rather boring. But, I can be boring upon request.
Since it took me several months to figure out how to add links to my blog despite numerous instructions on how to do so, I hope you don't mind that I'm simply putting the link here.

Mrs X, just do that everytime you leave a comment anywhere with typekey enabled. Perfect.
Posted by: MelissaS | 2006.03.15 at 12:20 AM
I think I'm some sort of blog spaz. I think I'm signed in but maybe I'm just in some sort of comment purgatory. Anyway, just checked in to say hi, Melissa. Hope this works. OK, I'll leave now.
Posted by: MetroDad | 2006.03.15 at 12:35 AM
Well, here goes... I coincidentally signed up for a typekey account the other day, and when I tried to activate, it gave me an error, so I hope it works! I'm brand spanking new to this whole blogging thing, so the tech of it scares me, just a little.
I also just want to say that I have really been enjoying your blog for some time now. Keep up the good work!
Posted by: PrideMama | 2006.03.15 at 12:42 AM
I've had my profile filled out for a little while now and I have to say, I've gotten hits from it since I did. Listen to her, you guys. She's knows stuff :-)
Posted by: Izzy | 2006.03.15 at 01:13 AM
Yay! I finally figured out how to fill out the profile. Funny enough, it never occured to me that the little tab labeled "Your TypeKey Profile Page" might be the place to go to rectify the situation.
Posted by: Meghan | 2006.03.15 at 01:26 AM
I think TypeKey is a smart commenting option and I agree w/ your "leave comments" statement. So true.
Posted by: edenza | 2006.03.15 at 01:33 AM
That's so cute, your hubbs checks all your posts. Must be w-ove.
Posted by: christine. | 2006.03.15 at 01:36 AM
Hey there! Love your site and still reading it, I just never think to comment. Great work on Flogging the babies, too. Hope you'll come and visit.
Posted by: Sara | 2006.03.15 at 01:37 AM
I don't really have anything to add, just wanted to poke my head up above the lurking and say howdy :-) Love your site, love the way you flog them babies, too.
Posted by: Wendy Mac | 2006.03.15 at 02:05 AM
apparently i have an account and now i'm curious as to what it will say. This has got to be the most boring, yet instructional, chain of comments ever!

http://earthmamagoddess.blogspot.com/
I honestly don't get this whole typepad thing. When you fill out the profile it doesn't ask you or direct you to put anything more down. Everyone else's blog asks for the url when you put in your comment. Whine whine complain.
You are truly an absolute kick in the pants but I can never get a comment to post so I hope this works.
come read my mommy blog and give me some tips feedback critique bullshit, whatever.
Posted by: Deb | 2006.03.15 at 02:17 AM
Thank you for clearing things up about Typepad.
Hope you'll stop by my blog. I'm not as funny as you are so please! lower your standards before you get to my blog. LOL..

Question, how do I add a photo to my typepad profile. It asks for an URL. huh? what? Geez, now I'm lost again. I'm getting kicked out the cool club I just know it. LOL
Posted by: tanyetta | 2006.03.15 at 02:34 AM
I've been a lurker on your blog for a long time now... and I don't know why this post is making me de-lurk... but it is.
Love your blog, love the show.
Posted by: Kelly Brimhall | 2006.03.15 at 02:51 AM
Hey there - thanks for the tip to put our URL in the Bio section. Can't BELIEVE that it won't even let us make it a live link. So strange...
Anyway, love the blog. My husband lives in Birmingham (long story, LOL), so I enjoy reading stories from a "local."
Posted by: foodmomiac | 2006.03.15 at 07:08 AM
It's embarrassing for both of us that you needed me to do this. I just sort of figured you knew where I was.
What's more embarrassing is I'm still not sure I did it properly!
Posted by: Schnozz | 2006.03.15 at 08:04 AM
Deb: go to the actual typekey site ( http://www.sixapart.com/typekey/ ), login and toward the top of the page there will be two tabs. One is Account Preferences the other is "Your Typekey Profile Page".
Go there and you can add whatever information you'd like.
Posted by: MelissaS | 2006.03.15 at 08:06 AM
I'm vaguely a lurker. I mean, I've gotten email back from you a couple of times for the few comments I have made. I have a new blog though, so check that mo-fo out. Bonus? I grew up in GR, so I love hearing about MI stuff. And you're funnier than I can imagine people being. I think the time you emailed me had something to do with me having been a sex-edumacator, which I am no longer. Muah!!!
All this to tell you that I added my little baby bloggiepoo link on my typepad account. God I ramble.

Just wanted to thank you for the club mom opportunity you posted and test the typepad thing. I've been toying with a few blogs over the past year since my daughter was born, trying to find my voice in a sea of mommy-bloggers. The current project is a safe haven group for mother-in-law bashing. Anyway, thanks.

I did it. Although, you haven't missed much. It's pretty quiet since Dude got the Hives. (Well, there was the gay wedding...)

Me too, nowhere to edit a profile or enter a web address. But thanks so much for the offer, it's very generous of you!

Yo!
Love the blog, not a huge commentererer.
I'm a mommy blogger who is dealing with an almost eight year old who has recently learned the secret Jedi untruth better know to us mortals as 'faking sick so I don't have to go to school'...help!

Ah hah. It would help if I'd actually READ. Signed in and profiled properly at typepad now. Thanks again!

I just signed up for Typepad so I could leave comments. I'm not a brand new blogger, but by no means am I an old one. I just wanted to say that I love your site!!
Posted by: Teresa | 2006.03.15 at 10:01 AM
Awesome! I fixed up that profile so it has my picture and everything. Also changed my name from Jenny P. to lastewie, which is my second ever screen name. To protect the innocent, you know? Thanks Melissa. Sometime when I come back to visit the fam in MI (like maybe this summer, cause shortly here I'm gonna be out of a job, losers), I'll invite you to our cottage in the Shelby/Hart area in Oceana County. Or you can stay in East GR with me. Bring the whole family. Oh god, now I have had too much coffee...

Hope you're feeling good.

I don't have a blog. I just like to comment on yours. I wonder now, though...if anyone has ever been interested enough to run their mouse over my name to see if I have one.
I also wondered if Logan would get too busy to read all your comments before approving...and I tried to make mine "good enough" for him to approve. Oh, the anxiety!
Posted by: reenie | 2006.03.15 at 12:59 PM
Melissa - love your blog! It prompted me to create one myself, which I had to take down because I inadvertently insulted a co-worker and then my boss got upset which led me to take it down and start a new one! How is that for a run-on sentence? Anyway, I still enjoy it but I am trying to learn to "filter" my thoughts somewhat because, as I'm sure you know, lack of a filter can get you in trouble.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and check out my blog if you get a chance!

I'm so confused with all this typekey crap -mainly because I have typepad and I feel like typekey should be automatic but it's not AAAAAHHHH.
I'm shamelessly welcoming folks over to my place today - lots of Public Service Announcements and good causes that should be read.

This issue frustrated me at first too. You must create a new link TypeList before you can select it on your profile.
Instructions:
- Click the "TypeList" tab on the My Weblog page.
- In the right column [1] Select Link. [2] Name your link. I called mine "My Blogs" I think.
- Click "Create new list" button.
- Add your blog URL(s) into the text field and click "Add".
You don't have to use it in your blog design. It just exists in your list of TypeLists until you use it somewhere.
Once you create the TypeList, edit your TypeKey profile page and select the new list.
Note: Only people with TypePad accounts can do this. I don't think it is possible with just the TypeKey.

I've often thought to comment but I was afraid it would end up being all "oh my gawd I love your blog and you remind me so much of myself" stalkerish that I ususally just keep my craziness to myself. But..
"Oh my gawd! I love your blog! And you remind me so much of myself"
