I am brilliant.
Maybe you've been sitting around today looking for proof of my brilliance.
Well, here you go.
It's often difficult for little kids to hold up their hand of cards when playing Go Fish or Uno and in our family this means we play with our cards on the table. This also means I always kick the kid's asses in our card games.
But not anymore.
You'll need two lids and a paper fastener. Put the two lids together, so their flattest sides are facing each other, make a small hole in the center of the lids and push the fastener through. Spread the prongs and you're ready for a game of Uno. Or strip poker.
*I didn't really come up with this idea. My friend Chrissy did, so I'm not really all that brilliant.

That really IS brilliant! When I play Go Fish with my almost-4-year-old, I usually have to get her to hide her cards behind an open binder. I'm going to try that.

Yes, but if they don't have to leave all their cards on the table, how will I keep winning their birthday money ? It's not like I am Rain Man and can count cards. I need SOME sort of advantage.

God I love things that involve paper fasteners and cleverness. In England, this would unquestionably earn you a Blue Peter badge, which is like a medal for creativity. They're as cool as OBEs over here. No, cooler.

but you're brilliant enough to SHARE it with the rest of us mere mortals who still play with cards on the table!
so thanks!

That's fabulous---I've seen those things at a local toy store but I wasn't going to pay $10 or whatever for one. Thanks for the tip!

As a regular Presbyterian, I have to tell you that I love your tagline, site, and all of your jokes about "the frozen chosen."

Where was this when I was a kid? Can I add that it leaves one hand free for nose-picking? Excellent!

That is very excellent, indeed!

That rocks! Finally something to do with all those freaking lids that I can never find the containers for. Not only does it help the kids it also cleans out my cupboards. :)

Ha! When my Michelle was 3, she made a set of these and decorated them with glitter paint and sequins and entered it in the Solano County Fair. She won first place. We still have the ribbon but not the card holders, darn it.

Very cool - you should submit this to http://www.parenthacks.com.
I'm new to your site and enjoying it very much.

OK - What I want to see next, Melissa, is a picture of you ACTUALLY RECEIVING a "Blue Peter" badge...
(Hey, I was a Girl Scout, I never earned a Blue Peter badge! Well, not that I know of, anyway....)

That is unbelievably brilliant! I'm in awe. And she who spreads the message should share in the credit for it's future marketing possibilities...
