I have no planning skills.

I am not good at planning things. I planned a therapy session for the same day as my anniversary (and that didn't go well) and then another for my birthday (which didn't go very well either).

Logan took the week between Christmas and New Year's off and on Sunday, in three days, we're hosting 3 families for New Year's Eve. Since I'm mostly done with therapy (for now), I decided to keep the fun going and I scheduled a surgical wisdom tooth extraction for today at 1pm.

I rule at planning.

Please God, don't let it be hellish.

Here's some ass-vice for you. Beware of the pain meds they prescribe you -- for many people, the pain is minimal and the meds may actually make you feel worse (nausea, vomiting, etc). Be sure to take them if you need to, but get off them as soon as possible. I'm still in dental school, so take that for what it's worth.

I was supposed to schedule an appointment to have my wisdom teeth cut out something like 6 months ago and I haven't been able to find the courage. Good luck and I hope it's not awful.

Having my wisdom teeth removed was less painful than having them left in. And you get the drugs.

Please don't be too concerned - ice, advil and more ice. You'll be fine by party time. And I agree with Lindsey about the pain meds - use them if you need them, but I was much better off with ib.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing!

Not all wisdom tooth extraction is horrible. I had all four of my wisdom teeth surgically removed on the same day, didn't take any pain meds and didn't have a single moment of pain and absolutely no swelling. By the end of the day I felt like nothing had happened and the following day I was back at work. Just remember to follow all the instructions they give you before the procedure to the letter. I hope that your procedure goes well!

Ugh, hope all goes well for you. My extraction wasn't pleasant, nor was recovery. But I'm a wuss.

Ohh, maybe you can schedule a colonoscopy on Valentine's day. Wouldn't that be fun?

I'm sure you'll be fine. I had my four removed at the same time and while there was discomfort, otc drugs helped more than the constipation I suffered from the codeine-laced crap I was given. Remember, don't use a straw for a few days (you don't want to disrupt the bloody plug...I know, sorry...) and ice for swelling.

Ditto on the "had all four out and had no problems" comments above. OTC (over the counter) drugs should be fine. I only had a slight jaw ache on one side but it wasn't bad at all. If you do take prescription meds, ask the pharmacist if it is constipating and take stool softener pills to counteract it.

But be sure to tell everyone it hurts like hell and you need to [insert favorite resting activity here] and they need to leave you alone for a while. How often will you have this opportunity? :)

Good luck! And don't use your tongue to fiddle with the holes the teeth leave for at least two weeks. No tongue fiddling!

Oh, screw all that advice. Vodka, girlfriend. That's what you need. Say it with me: Grey Goose.

Oh, Melissa, I hope your tooth extraction goes as well as most people say theirs went! I had all four of mine removed at once, and had such a blinding headache that the doctor prescibed me valium the day after! And it worked better than the other pain meds! Guess he was pretty smart, chalking the pain up to the stress and anxiety of the procedure. Good luck!

Maybe you should stick with the OTC drugs. But give the Rx drugs to me.

please?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I had mine out and the drugs were tons of fun. :) I saw some strange stuff, but it was all in my head.

The whole situation was much easier than I imagined.

Ha! Okay, I'm late to the par-tay, but it seems I have the same wise planning skills that you do.

I went to the dentist because my one wisdom tooth was bothering me (back in October). And yes, they had to come out.

So I scheduled an extraction with the oral surgeon. For Halloween. Yes, I rock. But if I didn't do it then, they couldn't do it until JANUARY.

Add to this: working on two contracts, working two jobs at the day job and buying a house and moving into it.

So when they cut into me (I was knocked out) they found that there were THREE teeth in that one socket. And the roots went all the way up to my sinuses.

Oh joy. But they gave me good drugs :)
