Indulgence.
Our Christmas in food.
***
Me: "....and we're having brussel sprouts...."
Max: "Dad, do you like brussel sprouts?"
Logan: "[convincing barf sound]"
Max: "I'm not eating them."
Me: "Way to go babe. Way. To. Go."
***
"You're doing what to the cauliflower?"
(Only I ate it. And loved it.)
***
"Wait, I thought all-purpose flour was for all purposes?"
"Well yeah, all purposes except when the recipe says self-rising flour."
"Damn it."
[Flat bisquits follow.]
***
Me: "Wait, don't cut it! I need a picture."
Him: "Why?"
Me: "I just can't believe I made something that looks so good. Plus, once my brother sees it he'll never work Christmas at the firehouse again leaving me to entertain our mother all alone."
***
Him: "Jesus! What the hell is that bowl of sugar for?"
Me: "The bread pudding."
Him: "Could you just use like half that or something?"
Me: "No."
[2 minutes later as I add the milk and cream.]
Him: "Holy SHIT! How much cream goes in there?"
Me: "A lot. That's why we have this once a year."
Him: "Couldn't you cut it by half or something?"
Me: "No."
[5 minutes later making the sauce for the bread pudding.]
Him: "What's the bourbon for?"
Me: "The whiskey sauce for the bread pudding."
Him: "Maybe you should put more in?"
Me: "All right."
I hope your Christmas was lovely.

LOL! We had many of the same conversations at my house, mostly in reference to the amount of sugar that went into a few different things. Mmmm, sugar.
Looks like your Christmas was quite tasty. What are you whipping up for New Year's? ;)

I think Logan must be related to my mother-in-law. However, since she was the one doing the cooking and combined her zeal for being more healthy with a basic lack of interest in the science of recipes, she would just cut the cream and/or sugar in half without asking anyone. Then she would complain about how the recipe didn't turn out very good. Well, no kidding!
That bread pudding sounds delicious.

Coulda been worse. The brussels sprouts coulda been pickles.
I hid the mashed potatoes in the kitchen while I put the butter in. How much butter? A LOT. But last time we were there, Stepmom made BOXED NO FAT MASHED POTATOES. A total sin.

I LOVE mashed cauliflower. There's strong possibility that I would eat it every meal if I had the chance.

Ooh! Is the bread pudding recipe posted somewhere?! :)

I really like mashed cauliflower. The first place I had it was Uno's. I think they put it on the menu to feel better about eating that 2000 calorie personal pan pizza (no exageration there).

I had brussels sprouts too. They were undercooked so I couldn't cut them and I almost choked on the one I did eat.
I also had all the juice from a $150 giant prime rib poured on me.
At least you just had to entertain Mom.
