Raging Throat.
The good news is Max was not faking his sore throat when he came home early from school on Monday.
The bad news is I am only certain of this because I am currently unable to swallow without wincing in pain.
I've been tracking my sore throats. If I get two more in the next 8 months I can get someone to take my tonsils out. I never thought I'd be wishing for more sore throats.
I hate when I don't really believe them until I'm having the same problem. Snarky kids.
I hope you feel better soon.

I too have a sore throat... I feel your pain!

We went through this with our now 9-year-old; at 5, he had strep 7 plus times, so he met the criteria for a T&A. I had my T&A at 5 (in 1972!), and now Jack has had strep 3 times since January, so it looks like he'll be having a T&A at 5. The recovery sucks, it's true, but the absence of throat pain afterward? Priceless.

I'm right there with you. Sadly, I've been informed that Mommy is not allowed to be sick, so the recovery is going slowly. But the vodka and ice cream are helping - not at the same time, though it's a thought!

I had my tonsils out when I was a senior in college. I actually missed the last week of my classes because of it. HELL.
Plus, I still get sore throats. Now that my tonsils are out of the way, I have post-nasal drip issues. My last sore throat (last week!) has morphed into a sinus infection that could only have come from the devil himself.

Hope you feel better soon.

ok first I gotta say this is my first time commenting on your blog. I couldn't resist...
I would consider yourself lucky (uhh kinda) I had to battle chronic tonsilitis for 2+ years. FINALLY getting them taken out next Tuesday. I hear the pain is horrible but that's ok. I'm still excited.

My son Max is home too with strep for the 5th time since Sept-(all the birthday parties, I swear). If they give your son Clinamycin, make sure you get it flavored---hope you all get better.

Lifehacker recommends cayenne pepper. Feel better soon!

The pain of the procedure and and the small degree of relief with tonsillectomy is not worth doing it. It just doesn't work well enough.
When dealing with repeat strep, try treating the whole family. Someone without symptoms could be carrying it.
Get Well Soon!

It's not strep. I've only had strep once in my life.
This is a constant swelling of my tonsils. It happens about every 6 to 12 weeks.
It's ridiculous. There are differing opinions about the effectiveness of tonsilectomies. I'm willing to try everything at this point.
Especially newer procedures which could cut recovery time. http://www.mainlinehealth.org/bm/article_9822.asp

My husband swears by gargling with good whiskey to clear up a sore throat. But I think that would require that your husband be around to keep an eye on the kids, right?

I had mine out when I was 26. Good times! They give you a big bottle of liquid codeine to drink (pills are too painful to swallow), and you lose 10lbs, because you just can't eat. I got to get high AND skinny for a week.
Seriously, the drugs work, but it is painful and you will be out of it for 5 days minimum. But worth it.

I saw this shirt and it reminded me of you.

My ENT told me that having your tonsils out as an adult is seriously painful (obviously because I want to do the same thing). Hell 10lbs and a week of pain pills...bring it on.
The tshirt that Angela mentioned is cute, but for $36? Not cute enough.
I've been thinking about you, not because I'm a stalker, but because we really need to settle down with the spending and save money. We have no nothing saved. It's a disgrace. Unfortunately, I LOVE to shop. How did you do it? Any tips you can share? I no you seriously curbed your spending...

I had my tonsils out as an adult for the same reason. It was no fun, but, it worked wonders.

Tonsils out after the age of seven is a challenge. Bossy had her's removed when she was in her twenties. No citrus, nothing spicy, no sugar, limited juice, nothing hard to swallow -- this left orange Jello. On the positive side of the balance sheet, Bossy lost ten pounds.

Oh, we had that a couple of weeks ago - first the little one, then me, then my husband. I was flattened for three days with an excrutiating sore throat and a 101-102° fever. Awful. Feel better.

I say go for it! I have mine out for chronic ear infections at age 12 and I've only had one ear ache since. I would hope removing them is as effective for sore throats.

I just had a T&A on Thursday at the age of 36 after years of chronic illness. Anything must be better then how I have been feeling! However my daughter is the one who is suffering since mommy is out of commission for a while
