A growing directory of things to worry about.
Maddie, watching a commercial for an anxiety medication.
TV: "Are you sitting on your couch afraid to leave because you might die on the way to your mailbox." (Paraphrased.)
Maddie: "That's so dumb. It's not like you just all the sudden drop dead or something. Especially not on the way to get your mail. That is so so dumb. What a dumb lady. Why would you worry about something so dumb. I mean that can't happen."
Me, in the next room working, taking this as rhetorical commentary.
Pause.
Maddie: "Mom, you can't just die while walking to the mailbox right?"

We've burned daylight by using our thumbs at The Buzz Off and I've been getting the kids to help in the kitchen a little more over at Ordering Disorder.

There are now just 7 days until Move In. I just realized unless Logan takes a day off work we can't actually be moved in until the following Saturday. I also realized that in order to actually move we have to rent a truck and rustle up some strong burly men to help us. This wouldn't be a problem but I just made fun of everyone Logan works with by calling them 13 year old adolescents.
Oops!

LOVE the house pics--thanks for sharing! It's all so clean & pretty, I'm living vicariously through you! Have a great time settling in!

Hey, 13-year old adolescents are surprisingly strong... Good luck with the moving!

Teenagers will do anything for food (beer), it doesn't matter how mean you are to them.

That's like the LifeAlert commercial. My son, who actually does have a slight anxiety disorder, is convinced that MUST get it in case one of is falls over and can't call for help.

Maybe someone already suggested this, but would you please take pictures of what *real* people actually wear to this party? I'm just wondering if anyone will show up dressed like Lindsay...

Pizza and Beer. It always works for us and we've moved three times in ten years of marriage. Never underestimate the power of dangling carrots...

I agree... hang some of those good luck party decorations, have some good beer on hand and those 13-year-olds will move everything from one house to the next in no time, especially if you hook up the TV at the new house first thing and tune it to ESPN. Or Cartoon Network. Maybe you can herd them from the office party straight to the moving van....

It's worth it to pay for moving help. We've always had to bum off of friends and co-workers for help, but it was always a pain in the end. I'm still hearing about people's injuries from the last time they helped us When we moved to Florida in January, our relocation check wasn't going to come until after the fact, so we were trying to do it as cheap as possible (plus we could keep any left over $$) . We contracted our own truck space and hired people from a local moving company to load. It was very very cheap. Same as paying for a lot of food and beer for coworkers and I don't have to see or hear from the laborers how they pulled their groin muscle everytime I see them (and ewwww..). I used emove.com to look up what others said about the local companies and filled out them form/paid. You really should try it. At least get them for 3-4 hours for the really heavy stuff. We used teen slave work for the boxes.

Last time we moved, we hired help we found off of emove.com. Granted, they weren't the most professional people. . in fact I think the people we picked were just a group of guys who did it for extra $$ on the weekends. But they did an incredible job packing our moving van, it was in there like a puzzle. . we could've never gotten that much packed in there. And they worked hard unloading it. You can go through comments and see the ones that have a good history. Just a thought - it was a *huge* help for us. Congrats on moving!

The coworkers should be clamoring to help so they can prove they're men not boys ;)
