Oh my God I love my inner Pollyanna.
Holy Shit....they're going forward.
August 16th closing. We're aiming for August 1st at the new place.
I don't even know how to celebrate something this huge. To the zoo with the kids? Packing the remaining contents of the basement? Robbing a furniture store at gunpoint? Cocaine bender?
Nothing seems quite exciting enough for something as momentous as this.

YAAAAAAAY.

Great! :)
And, btw, if I were you I'd celebrate with a massive margarita bucket. But that's just me. :)

Congratulations. Can't wait to see the Dream House.

Inner Pollyana KICKS ASS!!!!!!
I am SO happy for you, Melissa. I have resisted commenting for a while now as I had the feeling anything I said would not really help at all, and sometimes you just have to send a person good vibes and keep your trap shut, you know?
But now I can open my trap and say, I am SO, SO thrilled for you. You sure as hell deserve some great news.
Posted by: PK | 2007.07.16 at 11:47 AM
Holy Crap. Congratulations. Your Pollyanna won. I am very, very happy for you. You'll be stumbling home from the wine party next year!
Posted by: Jennifer | 2007.07.16 at 11:47 AM
Does a happy dance!
I'd like to think that it was your inner pessimist that made the magic happen.
Congrats! =D
Posted by: Smeep248 | 2007.07.16 at 11:48 AM
Congratulations!!!!!
Celebrate by heading to COSCO for a mountain of kid's snacks and marg buckets... if your dream neighborhood is anything like mine, start picturing yourself on the back pouch sipping cocktails with the other moms while handing out cheese sticks and popsicles to the army of kids on that new trampoline.
Posted by: Melizzard | 2007.07.16 at 11:56 AM
Melissa,
That is AWESOME! I am so glad for you, I can tell from your blog how badly you want this. Now you don't have to be bummed about not selling and moving anymore. I hope your dream house turns out to be even more dreamy than you pictured! Whatever you do to celebrate, do it big! Congratulations!

Posted by: schmutzie | 2007.07.16 at 12:12 PM
Um, I know we don't know each other and all, but FUCK YEAH! THAT's how a house is sold! Woo hoo!! Ow oWWWWWW! (There's a dance. You should be happy you cannot see that dance. There are flappy arms involved.)
To say that I am excited for you might understate things. I think I might have been projecting my own upcoming home sale onto your journey. Sorry if your back hurt from carrying all that.
WOO HOO!

Posted by: virginia | 2007.07.16 at 12:19 PM
A-mazing! Congrats! Now please please send a few positive thoughts this-a-way so that our offer on the house we're bidding on tomorrow gets accepted. I am using your good luck as a sign that I will have a house!!
Again, this is wicked cool.

Posted by: Amy | 2007.07.16 at 12:39 PM
OMG, that's the best news!!! FANTASTIC. I vote for the cocaine bender, but I'm a bad decision maker, so you shouldn't listen to me. Also, since I've never actually been on a cocaine bender, I don't know if it will be fun. Sounds fun, though. Unless you get arrested. So, maybe no. But still, holy hooray for new neighbors!
Posted by: Amy | 2007.07.16 at 12:40 PM
OMG! I feel like *I* have a new home! I'm all about furniture at gunpoint, there is nothing better...umm..not that I've done anything like that....slowly walks away
Posted by: winechic | 2007.07.16 at 12:42 PM
Another de-lurker here to say YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I vote ice cream. Unless you're lactose intolerant, or just hate ice cream. Then go for the coke. Ha!

yay for you and your family, melissa! i read your blog each day and for a long while, i've had my fingers crossed - hoping you would sell your house and high-tail it over to that Dream Neighborhood. :)
i'm SO freaking happy for you guys!!! this is great. maybe do a celebratory dance around that Front Yard Toilet in your current neighborhood. (or, was is a bathtub?) lol.
Posted by: kyra | 2007.07.16 at 12:53 PM
If anything ever called for a Momtini (TM), this is it. Congratulations!
Posted by: ErikaMSN | 2007.07.16 at 12:55 PM
OMFG. Congratulations - that is excellent news. I think I am more happy for you selling your house than if it were me and I was buying my first home. I read your post yesterday and thought, "Fuck all, let her out of that house already."
I suggest you get a fancy new pitcher and glassware set to serve margaritas to your new neighbors in the new house on your new backyard patio, where the only blaring music you hear is your own.
You are the third person in two days to post that they are under contract... it gives me hope that one day I will be brave enough to BUY a house without endlessly worrying about the day I try to sell it.
Posted by: Lily | 2007.07.16 at 01:00 PM
Melissa, I am so happy for you!! Congrats!

I love reading about your family adventures (you guys seem to have such a good time), and I'm so glad this adventure turned out the way it did! Keep up the great writing and have a happy move to the dream neighborhood!!

Holy sh*t!! That's so awesome! And it's almost like you planned it that way to have a few weeks before the kids started school and all. I'm sure the rest of the summer will just fly by, what with all the packing and picking out paint colors.

Congratulations - I'm so happy for you!!!!!
(Don't forget to dig up your Saint Joseph statues & take them along. It's supposed to be really bad luck if you leave him behind.)
And did you know August 1st is only 16 days away?!?!? Holy crap, woman - start packing NOW!! :)
Posted by: Zookins | 2007.07.16 at 01:45 PM
Fanfuckingtastic, Melissa!!!!! We went through this earlier this year--complete with the panic and backing-out after an inspection--so I really felt your pain earlier. (And we had relocated to another country, so were having to pay 2 housing payments in the meantime and deal with it all long distance--FUN!)
I am just so thrilled for you and your family. Celebrate 'til it (almost) hurts. OK? :D
Posted by: siobhan41 | 2007.07.16 at 01:45 PM
That's fantastic. Now that you don't need her, could you send your inner Pollyanna over to kick mine in the butt? Ask her to bring Saint Joseph along too. We haven't had an offer on our house (that we moved out of in March but have had two mortgages since last November...I lost my job in January and had baby #2 in April).
Posted by: Kim | 2007.07.16 at 01:52 PM
Pollyanna gets beat up so much, do something nice for her. Before you start your packing in 7 day marathon -'cause you totally should see if you really could do it!
Yahtzee! Congratulations.
Drinking not a healthy way to relieve stress, but cocaine to celebrate? I don't know, does Dr. Janet have a hotline?
Posted by: amypt | 2007.07.16 at 01:52 PM
Congratulations!
Posted by: K K | 2007.07.16 at 01:53 PM
This is huge. You need something bigger than BJ's and benders to celebrate.
Congrats, man. Way to kick that house to the, um, curb.
Posted by: supa | 2007.07.16 at 01:55 PM
OMFG! Fantastic news. :) Can't wait to hear about the move.

Congratulations!!!! Can't wait to read your postings from the Dream Neighborhood.
Posted by: Victoria | 2007.07.16 at 01:59 PM
That is WONDERFUL NEWS!!! Having just sold a house in the Detroit market last summer I was sending 'sell that house' vibes your way! Can't wait to start hearing new house stories!!
Posted by: Amy | 2007.07.16 at 02:00 PM
Holyfuckingshit. I knew it. I just knew it. Something told me to come check today. Maybe I have a Pollyanna too?
Posted by: metalmeredith | 2007.07.16 at 02:01 PM
Many congrats!!! I am so happy that your headaches won't be yours for much longer!
Possible ways to celebrate:
Dry hump neighbors boat.
Walk around with your shirt off doing yard work.
Invite friends over and have them blast their car radios - all playing different radio stations - while you dance for joy.
Change your name to Pollyanna (or use that name when you're about to get arrested for disturbing the peace).
Ignore all of these options and walk around with a huge fucking smile for the next month.
Posted by: moxygen | 2007.07.16 at 02:01 PM
Oh my goodness! What awesome, awesome news...congratulations and I hope that Dream House and Dream Neighborhood will soon erase all memories of Ed and Tile Cutter and their boat.
Posted by: locolojo | 2007.07.16 at 02:02 PM
I actually clapped with joy when I read your post. Congratulations on the house sale! I think you need to break out the sombreros and margaritas and let 'er rip!
Good luck with the move to the new fabulous place!
Posted by: carrie | 2007.07.16 at 02:02 PM
Woo hoo!! Time to indulge in house porn for the future abode!!!
Posted by: beki | 2007.07.16 at 02:06 PM
Congratulations! I think this calls for days of parties, like an Indian wedding. First night, BBQ. Second night, pool party. Third night, Mojito Mania. Fourth night, wine tasting. Etc.
Also, maybe a donation of thanks to your local Sisters of Saint Joseph order? Sounds like El Santo pulled through for you. (With Pollyanna's help!)
Posted by: merseydotes | 2007.07.16 at 02:07 PM
Congratulations, that's fabulous news!

Posted by: Mabimac | 2007.07.16 at 02:25 PM
Congrats. And just a word of advice: when the buyers come over to see you, make sure the stereo isn't playing "The Roof is on Fire."
Posted by: GeeseOPlenty | 2007.07.16 at 02:30 PM
yippee!
um, go back to amsterdam and sit in a cafe all day? that sounds like a good way to celebrate.

YAY!!!!! I've been lurking with nothing helpful to say and now can say WOOO!
Yeah, skip the coke bender, I think it's one of those things that sounds more fun than it is. I like the suggestion to have all your friends blast their music loud as possible while you dance. Also, summer sale at Pier One on 13 and Woodward--I bet you can get a LOVELY margarita set cheap enough that you can break a few in your exuberance. WOO!! Your story gives me hope we might get out of here someday ....
Posted by: AmyinMotown | 2007.07.16 at 03:27 PM

Posted by: Lisa | 2007.07.16 at 04:25 PM
Fabulous! I don't know whether you should throw a party for the neighbors or invite Meridith and Dr. Prissy over for cocktails. Obviously these buyers did realize what a bargain they were getting. So happy for you!

Jeezum crow! It's about freakin' time! Drink a bucket of margaritas (in the company of a responsible male, of course) and go crazy!
Posted by: Andrea | 2007.07.16 at 04:53 PM
I've been hoping so hard for you and I'm thrilled that congratulations are in order! The husband and I recently made our own overdue escape and celebrated by getting drunk on cheap wine and stealing the light bulbs out of the neighbor's yard light that glared through our bedroom blinds and two layers of curtains every night for 2.5 years.
Posted by: Kelli | 2007.07.16 at 04:58 PM

Melissa -- I've been waiting, anxiously, to be able to say, "Congratulations!!!" and I'm so thrilled for you. (It gives me hope, that in an even more housing-depressed-location than yours, that when we finally get our asses in gear, and do what needs to be done to get this house sellable, that we'll be able to do it). Really, every day, when I'm clicking over to your blog, I think, "I wonder if today's the day? I hope it's the day'and happily, and hopefully, this is it!! I'm so happy for you, and I can't WAIT to hear/see the new house.
Did you guys have dibs on it, on a contingency, with you being able to sell your house?
Posted by: Kelly | 2007.07.16 at 07:32 PM
Congratulations! I'm so thrilled that the Gods of Real Estate have finally smiled upon you. I think I'd celebrate by exhaling a years worth of stress, followed by that Steak and Foot Massage thing your husband suggested.
Posted by: Izzy | 2007.07.16 at 07:39 PM

Ohhhhh mannnnnn!
I can't wait to log on to Flickr and see all the awesomeness of the new house, the non-screeching neighbors, the backyard parties, the margarita fests, the lack of a boat (or a toilet!) looming over the curb across the street... Cheers and Salut!

delurking to say, Congratulations! Not that you know me, but I've been reading the blog for a while and understand how big a deal this is. I think you've handled a really hard time with a lot of grace and I'm glad you're finally being rewarded for that.

There really couldn't be better news than this right now. Congratulations.

Yay! Wa-hoo! I came to your site, thinking you'd still be bummed out. GREAT NEWS!
Wow, August 1st? We'll be deprived of posts no doubt as you fill up those boxes and fully transport your life. YAY!
So maybe all those gentle vibes we sent worked on the new owners?!

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you. Will you be posting pictures of the dream house?

That is awesome news!! Congratulations!!! Maybe you and all your friends in the new neighborhood can have a mini-parade or caravan, honking horns and waiving flags/balloons, as you triumphantly drive AWAY from your old house and TO your glorious new home. Or at least yell out the window at your old neighbors, "So long, suckers!" as you drive away for the last time. Congrats!!!

Melissa!!! As one of the first commenters said, I've never been so happy for someone I don't know! I've been backpacking through a third world country and checking your site on rickety internet connections just because I so wanted to know that it finally worked out! (and I am otherwise a fairly sane, non-obsessive person, I promise!) Thank you for sharing your happiness! :) Warmest wishes,
Anna

ps. I've just arrived back from my trip... in case you were wondering why I am branding the UK a third world country... :)

I totally missed this yesterday!
I am so happy for you....and the packing thing...it is amazing how we can do things when we really want to do them.
Happy "Got-rid-of-the-old-house-so-i-can-have-the-new-house" day!

Congrats! I must admit this is sort of like Gilligan getting off the Island. I'm not sure I will peek in here as often now.

Me, I'd be sobbing until every droplet of moisture was drained from my exhausted body. That's how I respond to the release of incredible stress like you and Pollyanna have been under. Oh, and then DRINK. Drink, drink, drink, make lists, draw furniture layouts in the new house, and don't forget the maniacal laughter.
Thank GOD, Melissa. You're my favorite blogger and every time I open your page I pray you've sold the house. It's been really stressful for me.
Enjoy and celebrate!!
