The Most Sober St Patrick's Day Of My Life
Last night we attended Max's cub scout Pinewood Derby.
The saddest part of the event was that Max had picked out wheels which were not legal. This meant his car was disqualified. I don't know who was sadder, Max because he couldn't race his buddies. Logan because he did all that work for nothing. Or Maddie and I who had to watch about 58 races through every single cub scout group (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos 1 AND 2...I think there was a platypus group in there too.)
Finally Max (and his buddy TJ....who also used illegal wheels) got a turn in the open race segment.
Fortunately TJ and Max happened to have the coolest cars in the pack.
Ah! Who won??
Sucks about the wheels. Did they give you a handbook? I DEMAND TO SEE THE RULE IN WRITING!

I think we were the meanest scout parents ever--they did it themselves. Still, they did manage to make it to the finals a time or two.
They definitely never made anything so cool looking and yet not quite street-legal. That will make a fine addition to the decor of a All-American boy's room.

How were the wheels not legal? They look small, black and round to me. Our pack always gets Pinewood Derby kits that comes with the block, wheels, and some paper measuring tool.
I have to say, those are some awesome cars though!! We went with the "oh-crap-the-derby-is-tomorrow-better-paint-the-car-tonight" design.

Jenn O, Max helped with each stage. Coming up with the design, cutting the metal tube for the gun on the front. Painting with spray paint. Logan cut the wood with the power saw....definitely a collective effort.

my nephews have made some pretty cool pinewood derby cars before but that? is the most awesomest.
