Many other places for you to see.
Did it just get really White in here? Or is that you?
Logan sent me this this morning.
When you meet a person wearing New Balance shoes it is a good idea to ask them about the marathon for which they are inevitably training. If they say “I’m not training for a marathon,” this is a good opportunity to raise your status by saying “oh, I thought only runners wore those. My running club all wear New Balance except for a few jerks who won’t shut up about Asics. I’m still a bit sore from the 10k run this morning.”
This is an extremely effective move since white people who jog are generally viewed as being better than white people who don’t. Although perhaps it’s more accurately stated that white people who jog feel the need to constantly prove they are better than white people who don’t.
Now, to be fair it's not Logan who constantly runs around telling people he runs marathons. It's mostly me telling people, "I know he comes off as really smart and handsome and funny, but get this, HE RUNS 26.2 MILES IN A ROW. ON PURPOSE." Most of the people I know think it's as crazy as I do. And a lot of them are white, so you know, do with that what you want.
I shared some birthday inspiration today at the Buzz Off, including this cake my friend Jodi made. It's actually a pretty simple process. You should try it if you have a SpongeBob fan in your house.
Last week I mentioned we were starting an Heirloom Gift Guide at Mighty Junior but I lied. I just felt like lying about it for some reason. Actually I wanted to do it but I was dead last week and now I'm back to life and have started the guide. Items will be added every day so you should look and maybe question the decision to get that vasectomy. For a minute.

I only found the Stuff White People Like website a few weeks ago--my brother kept sending me links to it, and I was all, 'I'm not looking at that racist crap', but it is hilarious! I laughed so hard at the 'New Balance' post that I had tears streaming down my face...very funny stuff. That cake is adorable, by the way... the mini burgers look very authentic! :)

I will have to share this with hubs--he is a runner (although he can't figure out what the deal is with marathoners) who always wears New Balance.

Stuff White People Like is hilarious (and scary accurate I'm discovering). Love the cake and this blog!

I just bought a pair of New Balance for my 2K walk this past weekend. I'm built for comfort, not for speed.

I clicked on the SWPL link, and I am wearing the exact shoes pictured there. I have never felt more white. Not training for anything, though.

My favorite part from the thing Logan sent you is "My running club all wear New Balance except for a few jerks who won’t shut up about Asics." I'm a crazy, pasty-skinned, New Balance-wearing marathon runner, and the worst shoes I ever bought were Asics. I bought them because the guy at the store WOULD NOT SHUT UP about how the Asics were better for my overpronation and blahblahblah, I ended up wasting $95 on shoes that made my knees hurt. When I asked the guy about it, he claimed it was because my legs were "too used to the New Balance shoes." Say what? I never went back to that store again.

My husband runs marathons, but wears Nike (I like Brooks, but you'll never see me put 26.2 miles together in a row in this lifetime). He tried Asics once too and now they are lawn cutting shoes after one time out on a training run.

Oh great, I just read the link. Apparently my husband supports sweat shops. I'll have to let him know.

Doesn't jogging itself fall under the category of SWPL?
LOVE that cake! For my nephew's bday I made burger cookies out of nilla wafers, thin mint-type cookies in the middle (as the patty) and used red & yellow frosting to stick the nillas to the patty. Then, we put them in cupcake holders along with those Pik-Nik thin fry/chip things. They were a big hit!

Aw crap, I have the exact pair of NB shoes pictured in the link. My only defense is that I'm NOT a runner, and those damned things hurt my feet like hell.
At the company where I work there is a real culture of executive/marathoner self worship. I have to fight back the vomit every time they start talking about 'the run' they all went on together in the park near the hotel on that trip down to visit the customer ... [gag!].

My husband is a runner, too. I don't share his enthusiasm for running in the least (I enthuse over reclining, actually) but I do like to tell people he runs because then his runnerness rubs off on me and makes me much more appealing. Unless the person hates runners but that hasn't happened yet. As far as I know anyway.
It was nice sort of meeting you at CB and also very nice eating next to you. You didn't elbow me even once. And you have lovely hair, btw. I was admiring it from afar in a totally non-stalkery way.

Oh and duh! Congrats on making the Wall Street Journal. I'm honored to have shared that little box with ya :)

First, I can't believe that is a cupcake....no way! Next, I ran one marathon in my life and my firm belief is that only certain people are built to run upright for that long. Hence that was the only one I've ever run. The only thing now to get me up off my bum is my weight. A husband was diagnosed with an illness that will likely end his life, Hashimoto's Disease and two young girls might make me run another marathon if for nothing else but to get the hell away from my life. I am kidding....kind of. By the way, I love your blog.
