I took this picture and a few others I'm going to share at a frozen yogurt place. The manager asked me to stop taking pictures because they have problems with designers stealing their ideas.
Their radical white on white decor and frozen yogurt with various toppings ideas.
Hmmmmm.....
Totally with you regarding pedantic jobsworth's getting snooty with cameras.
To the security guy in Phildeplphia who had a problem with me taking photos of a painted dinosaur as I could be secretly taking photos of the surrounding buildings to sell to terorists, I think your a knob.

OMG--that's my fave restaurant in the background--sodini's--eat there

What kind of designers are hijacking ideas from a froyo stand? Really?

I cannot wait to see the rest of that place, it reeks of originality. I take tons of pics and never encountered this craziness before spending a weekend in Amsterdam last November. It is RAMPANT there. You cannot take a photo inside a store unless you are super incognito. The guy at Puccini Bomboni told me I can take "ONE picture, ONE!" Apparently the chocolates are very camera shy ;)

Pinkberry?
Posted by: anna | 2008.07.28 at 05:36 PM
No! But it's amusing because *they* totally copied Pinkberry!

Plus, you know, I totally base where I'm going to eat my frozen yogurt on how the inside of the facility looks.

Umm....White on white? Frozen yogurt with toppings? I don't think I have EVER heard of these ideas! How new and innovative! I think I'll steal them and open my OWN froyo stand, in white on white! Ooooo, cutting edge.
Gads. Some people just need to get over themselves. And yeh, TOTALLY, on the copying Pinkberry. Maybe you should have told the manager you were from Pinkberry, and were gathering evidence in a pending lawsuit over the theft of their design and product ideas. Just to get him/her a little nervous. Heh heh heh. I'm a bitch ;)

My husband works in the Koreatown of a Major Metro City, and let me tell you there have been proto Pinkberrys on every corner there for decades . . . along with their "plain" frozen yogurt (WTF?)

Copying their design can also be done by any visitor. But a photo will be distributed to many and they may be worrying. But is it so great design!?

Was it YAGOOT??
Never tried it, just like saying it. Yagoot!

Cholestratrim: Yes, but common sense would seem to say that publicity helps your business grow.
It just seems counter-intuitive to hide your business from prying eyes.

I'm always reluctant to take photographs in stores for this reason.

I am when it's something like a clothing designer or some other unique thing they're selling. But when it's frozen yogurt and the entire store front is a wall of windows? Yeah, dumb rules should be stomped.

I am asked not to take photos in EVERY store and restaurant I am in in BIG cites. In small towns, store managers often adjust the lighting to help me get a better shot. I'll never understand these business people who don't understand free advertising and publicity.
