Do-Over
I think it will be easier to not be so annoyed by this move once I give the keys back to the landlord on Saturday. Before we can do that though we have to spend our evening (with friends, beer and pizza) painting all the rooms back to white.
It will also help when we put some color on the walls in this place.
It will also help when the cleaning ladies can come over.
It will also help when it's not freezing and snowy and so aggravating to clear off my car every morning after living a luxurious 18 months with a garage.
It will also help when we're not frantically trying to get everything done.
I decided earlier in the month I was just going to call a do over on 2009. So on Saturday night, when Logan's gone with Max on a cub scout trip to Kalamazoo, at 11:59 I will be re-ringing in the new year.
On February 1st I will make a more concerted effort to not mentally tally everything that's making me not happy about things right now.
Too bad I threw out those great 2009 novelty glasses from the first New Year's Eve party we had.
Yeah.. I like that... I reserve the right to a do-over too...

Great idea, Melissa. Go for it!

I think you should go get $20 in singles and "make it rain" on each other. You know, to signify all the money you're saving. Then you can find another use for those ones...
Happy New Year The Second!

Honestly? You have to repaint? I think the landlord should give you a credit for improving the place. Who wants to live with white walls?

Bobbie...it gets so much more insane and stupid.
As soon as I have the security deposit I'll share.

I can't believe the old landlord is making you paint! I've never heard of that. I guess it's good you got out of there, he sounds like an ass.

From what I remember from various photos, your paint choices were very tasteful and whatever the decor equivalent of "fashion forward" is.
I need to work on not enumerating my woes, too - thanks for the reminder!

In fairness...it was in our lease agreement. That we'd return it to it's original (unpleasant and unsellable) condition.
So he gets just what he wants! Yay!

Oh I hate that part of moving. I would, at this in limbo part, say screw it and lose my deposit. But I'm lazy that way. You must not let your landlord keep YOUR deposit, however.

*love* the idea of a do-over! happy new year!!

I'm also doing a Do-Over party Saturday night because I ended up in the emergency room on the real New Year's Eve with kidney stones and missed our party. (Seriously what 31 year old ends up with kidney stones on New Year's Eve?)
Good luck with the painting! Painting makes me happy except not painting white (been there, done that with a rental house).

I'll join you in the do-over. My 2009 has been a nightmare, so far. I like the starting fresh idea. I'll add champagne to the shopping list!

I want to paint the walls in my rental so bad, but I don't know if my friends would be nice enough to help me repaint!
I never used to read your blog, now I do a lot because I feel the need to check up on you, yes I am the freak who forms codependent bonds with strangers. eh.
You should do something secretly horrible to your old landlord like hide a tuna sandwich somewhere.
ooh, I know so immature.

I like it.
I will have a margarita to celebrate the new year as of 2/1/09. Of course, that might have a little bit to do with the Superbowl, but no one else needs to know that.

you know the ass-wipe landlord will try to find something to keep the deposit. people like him always do. good luck and at least you will not have to put up with that crap anymore.

And that is where the tuna sandwich comes in.

I love the do-over concept. Hang in there, moves are incredibly stressful, but it will be worth it! :)
