Antique Olive Nord, says "Winner".
My husband is a design nerd.
I've actually listened to conversations around my family room that start with this sentence, "What's your favorite font?" Then I've listened to the earnest and well thought out answers.
Around the dinner table I've heard people say, condescendingly, "Did he use Comic Sans?" Uproarious laughter follows. "No, no, no...." the next person says, "It was Avante Garde!"
So it's not entirely shocking that Logan came up with this design for Max's Pinewood Derby entry this year, (here's last year's).
The race is Monday night, this year they used legal wheels so Max is in the regular competition. Watch out Boy Scouts. I hope none of you used Comic Sans on your cars.
The car is fantastic. And God do I hate Comic Sans. I instantly want to delete any email written in it. I guess at your wedding I'd have been sitting on the nerd side of the aisle.

Even worse than Comic Sans: Sand.
And once you recognise Sand, you see it everywhere and suddenly you start wanting to set fire to a lot more things than you did before.

From the top view, it looks like...imax; cool.

So glad my husband isn't the only design nerd out there... I've been berated for using Papyrus or Comic Sans. Thankfully, I've never incurred wrath for improper Kerning. Question, does Logan own the Helvetica documentary?

What a cool car! I hope he wins!

Did he drill holes in the bottom and melt metal which he then dripped into the holes? No? Maybe only mechanical engineer nerds do that to make the car heavier and go faster. We have two Cub Scouts, so my husband has been one busy man lately.

i think it's hilarious that any good designer worth their salt hates comic sans. comic sans was the butt of many jokes around my shared office space for two years. anytime we'd get a business card with comic sans, we'd make bets on how soon they'd be bankrupt because we were mean.
i digress. good luck max!

that is a great pinewood derby car. i had to show it to my prize-winning derby car building husband and he also approved.

alright. I'm a design nerd.
I had to object when a school board candidate used comic sans for his position statement. come ON! how can i take you seriously? I also hate hobo, minstral and tecton. bleck.

I hate pretty much all sans serif fonts, unless they're used strictly as design elements. For any text I have to read, I want serif all the way.
Max's car is awesome -- good luck to him!

Love the car, new pic of you and the awesome new masthead. All are very nice.

Great car font. Did he win any races?
Love the Suburban Bliss 'updated' header and new photo; but I miss your old photo a lot!
(long time visitor, first time commenter, keep it like you've been doing it, love your "perspective"?

Oh no. I knew I wasn't Martha Stewart, but now I know I'm a printed design washout, too. I have been known to use Comic Sans...regularly...in correspondence. That I want people to read. I never knew it was...laughable. I just thought it was more...readable.
I'm so ashamed.
But also confused...what is Antique Olive Nord? If it's a font, my Mac is lacking.

Am also loving the new header and picture, though I had a fondness for the old ones as well. Frankly, I'm just jealous because I can't figure out how to even put up cool headers like that.
Wishing Max lots of luck! I'm such a dweeb that I've searched out handwriting fonts so I can bring cursive back to my students. None of them can read when I write on the board. Sigh. I also have to admit that Comic Sans is not exactly trust-inspiring for me, and I have had conversations about font preferences.

I will be right over. I can go on at length why Franklin Gothic has it all over than Helvetica (and don't ever say "Arial" Grrr.)
I think Antique Olive Nord was an excellent choice.

Sorry about grammar. Not awake.

Cute car! I don't have any Boy Scouts, so I don't know how this works. Are the fathers supposed to design and build the cars, and the boys just send them down a track?--Or is it like science fair projects where the parents do all the work 'undercover', and everyone pretends the children did it? ha

wonder how the counter-space will effect its aerodynamic performance? ;)

Sarah - priceless!!
For the record, I currently *heart* Century Gothic. I'm not a designer of anything, I'm just overly picky when I get so many choices. So I'm only a font nerd, I guess.

Logan probably has already seen this, but in case he hasn't, take a look at Periodic Table of Typefaces. (via www.lifehacker.com)

I'm not super picky, but I agree that Comic Sans is evil.
The car is pretty cool. Good luck to your son!

I too had no idea I was a dork for using Comic Sans or even that my font choices could define me.
As a fellow Cub Scout mom, I feel your pain. Hope he did well.

My graphic artist daughter makes fun of me all the time for using comic sans on my school web pages. But I don't care - it's the easiest for elementary students to read!
Posted by: Jan Ross | 2009.03.17 at 11:36 AM
Why's everyone always hating on Comic Sans? I have to admit I enjoy looking for the right font... for about 10 seconds. Then they all just kind of blend into serif, sans serif, 70's computer futuristic, calligraphy or handwriting.
Another cool car for Max! I hope he likes it. I probably would have gone with Matura MT Script Capitals, myself. Just kidding. Was the fact that it looks like "IMax" from above intentional?

Hey, how did the race turn out? Great looking car, no matter what, which will be what he cares about when he's older and has all his cars saved.
