Yoga Lies.
My friends and I are taking yoga classes once a week from our friend Chef Laura who isn't happy being just a kick ass chef, she also wants to be a yoga teacher. I'm married to a Type A and I keep finding Type A people who become my favorite people. Something's happening here.
Here's how I remember the first yoga class Laura taught us:
Her: Just be gentle with yourself. Take a nap.
Me: I like yoga.
Here's how I remember the second yoga class Laura taught us:
Her: Keep moving!
Me: Oh! Funny Twister! How neat!
Her: Keep Moving!
Me: Wait....I'm sweating. I thought this was napping? WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Today I'm sore and I don't know how to tell you this.
Yoga is.....
it's something horrible...
Yoga is exercise.
Laura is a liar.
Laura is a big fat liar! The thing is with yoga it starts out all nice and meditation like and then you start getting into difficult poses and start sweating and it's hard.
Yoga - it's great for you but it IS work. Laura sounds too perfect. She cooks and teaches yoga? I can't walk and chew gum!

I've never made it past the napping part to find out that it was a sham. Thanks for letting me know before I exerted myself too much!

Where do I sign up for that napping yoga class?!

As soon as I read the title, it started running through my head to the tune of "Tell Me Lies." So thanks for that.
("Yoga lies, Laura tells yoga lies. Yoga liii-iiies. Yoga, yoga lies!)

I love my yoga class, I'll sweat as much as you want if it means I don't have to listen my kids whining for 90 min.

even with the sweating it's still a million times more fun than aerobics or spinning or, heaven forbid, RUNNING.

I love yoga. Went to class last night and found bliss. Really!
But it's not like that at every class. Some days I'm thinking "when is this going to be over!"
In the end I'm always glad I went. :)

Yoga is learning to be comfortable in an uncomfortable position. Plus it makes you feel great to accomplish some of those postures, like Pavrita Bakasana or Bujapindasana...

I have a yoga mat that has yet to be yoga'd on... And I've had it for over a year.
But I'm still determined to give it a try!

...or listen TO my kids whining. I wish I could say that I was new to English, just new to coherent sentences.

The first time I took a yoga class, I remember thinking "what the...?" as the instructor tried to help me do a headstand against a wall.
And THEN somebody farted. So any chance I had of mustering the headstand...forget it.
Years later I found an awesome instructor of Iyengar yoga (the only type I would do now), who routinely stretched the limits of my ligaments and tendons. But in a very caring and personalized way. She changed my mind about the whole practice.

After a two-year yoga hiatus, I went back to the "Gentle" class (i.e., not even a "Beginner" class) at my friendly, neigborhood yoga studio on Monday. This class doesn't even get into anything as complex as sun salutations - yet I was so out of shape, it totally kicked my ass! But the deep breathing and meditation are what keep me going back.

I'm starting my first ever yoga class on Sunday, so I love reading all the comments. I'm sure I will come off as the quite rank amateur that I am. As long as I don't fart...

see, the farting part would always worry me... as long as someone else did it i would be fine as long as i wasn't too close to whoever... but it does seem like farting would be hard to avoid in some of those positions..

Damn Aniston, Madonna, Paltrow and their toned arms!!!
Can't I just do 8oz reps with my wine glass each night and call it done?

I've tried yoga. It's quite difficult. I became pretty good- and then I had a baby and that went out the window.
My 22 yr old childless and absolutely tiny best friend is trying to talk me into doing one of those pole-dancing exercise classes after I have my twins.
I laughed.

I don't think I could do Yoga.
Just the names of the different poses make me laugh. Like Downward Dog? I'd probably giggle and mess up everyone's aura or something.

What there needs to be are napping classes. I would definitely get certified to teach that!

I hate yoga. I don't like hurting.

LOL. This is the first time I've visited your site. (clicked over from finslippy) I must say, what a warm welcome. Love the "yoga lies" hahaha. Pilates lies too. Well at least beginner pilates. Your doing the stuff and it seems simple and the next day it's like you need a body bandaid! Thanks for the laughs!

I go to yoga with a friend. We always go out for drinks right after, never mind the sweat! It's like motivation to actually go to yoga, but I still haven't gone in close to a month. :p
