Maddie's Room
In the last house we never made it upstairs to do much of anything to the bedrooms. We were too busy entertaining and loving the neighborhood.
So now that we have the living room painted and settled in we decided to tackle the kid's rooms so they'll feel settled in here for the two years we'll be staying.
Maddie wanted blue for her walls so we had the paint matched to the blue on her comforter. Then I threw the paint on the floor.
I don't recommend throwing your paint on the floor. It's one of those moments where you're faced with a mess of such mammoth proportions you just stand there not sure how to proceed. So I sort of yelled, "I need help!" and then I stood and swore a lot. Magically (Logan) it got cleaned up.
Adding some color to the walls was as satisfying as usual, but more satisfying was putting out Maddie's collections of stuff.
The flags are from Maggie and she got them at Hema. They're actually disposable but we keep using them for parties and now bedroom decor. The plate on the wall was made by an artist on Maddie's first birthday, the same artist who made the platter Logan gave me on our wedding day.
Dogs dogs dogs! I love the wall hangings, I found them in Indiana on an antiquing trip with my sister in law. They were $10 for the both of them. God bless you Indiana.
We call these Wooden Dancing Dolls and Maddie has a very large collection. I decided this was something she would collect when she was a baby, but as she's gotten older she appreciates the collection as well.
Logan found this on a trip to Cleveland when Maddie was about a year old. I know you could read it like we want our kid to grow up and be a dancer at a club. But I like to read it more like an affirmation of her power, like, "You Go Girl!"
Here's a frame Maddie made and a tile Logan gave Maddie a few years ago as a special From Dad Christmas gift. I think every girl should get special From Dad gifts.
Next up Max's room. We need to tackle this one sooner rather than later the plans continue to get more involved. Right now we're looking at camoflauge walls and a jeep as a bed. Good luck with that one little dude.

Oooh, goody. Someone else figuring out what to do with rooms in their house. I'm in such a rut and so sick of watching HGTV. You're giving me good ideas! So pretty! Nice work.

What a perfect little-grown-up-girl room! (And, I adore that wedding gift from Logan. How beautiful!)

I have spilled blue paint on the floor when painting a child's room too. Unfortunately, our floor was carpeted. I just screamed. There were no words. We rearranged his room so that the bed covers the blue floor :)
Maddie's room looks great! I am collecting things for my daughter too. But she is still only seven and has little appreciation for anything.

I love that paint color. It is exactly what I was envisioning painting my little girl's room. Would you mind sharing what shade it is?

ARGH....that's what I'm 'discussing' with my seven year old right not----camouflage walls....although he hasn't come up with the jeep idea yet....

We have that comforter, bless T@rget for having affordable attractive wares. I'd like to know what the paint color is too.

Oh, how my mother would love those poodle hangings! We had two white toy poodles when I was young and now she has two black two poodles. It's an obsession for her :)

oh so nice!! this inspires me to fix up my daughter's room, which i finally got around to painting blindingly hot pink, per her preference (seriously, i don't know how she sleeps in there), but there is no real order to anything else in the room. she would go crazy for those dogs!

What a peaceful, beautiful little treehouse room! Love the iron bed and "Go go girl!" banner. :)

Be glad its light colored paint...
I threw paint on the floor in our bathroom once... and it was the lamp black paint I was using for the trim o.o
thankfully it cleaned up pretty well, and what didn't I claim adds to the charm of the 50 year old asbestose floor tiles.

My painting story?
Hunter green paint, a full quart +
White, wh-i-i-ite carpet +
My foot =
Much crying and some pretty questionable language.
On the plus side, it got me out of helping with any painting projects for about five years.

You have done a wonderful job! You know, besides the painted floor part. What a lovely girls room and I love all her nic nacks and special things.

It looks really nice. I like all the wooden dancing dolls.

You should seriously consider a career in decorating. Your home looks so homey and well "accessorized" and you've got a real knack for the whole nick knack thing!

I stood firm, and only one wall was camouflaged. And it's great. :0)

At least you didn't accidentally throw paint across the whole room like I did last spring when I was finishing up my meticulously-painted sewing room. It was the worst, most godawful mess I have ever experienced in my extremely klutzy and messy life.
I've helpfully left the link to my blog entry about that disaster up above, so you can point, laugh, and feel better knowing that other people have suffered similar gloppy messes.
The room turned out really cute. It's sweet, tranquil, and perfect for a little girl her age. I love all of her little dogs. Her decor shows a lot of personality.

We "decided" before our sons birth that he would be into vintage Army and airplane stuff. For his 2nd birthday in March we wanted to get a "big boy bed" instead of converting his crib, and my husband came up with the Jeep bed idea. The ones we found online were soooo expensive, and most were only toddler size, so he wouldn't have beeb able to use it long. We (my husband) actually built one ourselves in a twin size that turned out awesome, and we were able to do it all for just a little over $200 including the twin mattress. So, the Jeep bed idea isn't so far-fetched! I could email you a pic if you'd like!

Maddie's room is adorable, but I wanted to thank you for sharing the previous post (which you've wisely not opened comments on). I have struggled with depression my entire life, and am just now (at almost 30) starting to get a handle on it. I am not yet a parent and parenting scares the crap out of me because I don't want to pass it on, and mostly because I know what it's like to be the child of a depressed parent. I'm slowly learning that my relationship with the children I could one day have does not have to be the same as the relationships I've had with my parents. Your last post "The tiny version of me without the childhood trauma" has helped make that seem like a more real possibility. Thank you from the bottom of my ovaries.
