I really didn't want to put a copyright thing on my site. It seemed a little....I don't know. But it's been brought to my attention I need to remind people to maybe think their own thoughts.

The last time I had a week long vacation was 2006

I realize I've been incredibly absent from this website. It's the daylight burning......not enough time to sit around thinking funny things.

Here are my pictures from my fun trip with Maggie Mason to check off "Swim with BioLuminescent Plankton" from her Mighty Life List.

Bad: I lost my luggage on the way down and on the way back and faced buying a Puerto Rican flag string bikini if my things did not show up.

That changes a person.

Good: Swimming with water that sparkles off your fingers is one of those things you didn't know existed a few months ago and yet, you got to do it and that is amazing.

Oh Internet, you expand my tiny world. And I'm not just talking about the porn.

Ha, I can totally see the helo pad and the building where I work on the Coast Guard base. These are great pictures, and make me anxious to get out and explore more. (I've only been here a few weeks.) Vieques is on my list once my boyfriend joins me down here. Glad you had a good time!

Nice pictures! You absolutely deserve that beautiful, peaceful getaway.

Trish

Lovely pictures! I was fascinated by the cobblestones when I was in San Juan, such gorgeous blue-y/grey-y bricks.

ella

Beautiful. Lucky duck!

Josephine

Your photos are gorgeous!

Erin

I'm glad you had fun. I would've rather been in Puerto Rico than a block from I-75 blowing up!

Sara

What an amazing trip! Love the photos.

Heather

Awesome photos! I love the one of the dog on the sidewalk on page 4 or--that's begging for a caption contest. So how come no photos of you or the lovely Maggie in there?

AmyMusing

Still trying to locate the flag string bikini pic? I'll scroll through again. I don't know how I would have missed that the first three times.

They lost your luggage BOTH directions? You spit on a Customs official, didn't you? You know you have to be nice to them if you want your bags to actually come with you!

As noted by another commenter, you are conspicuously absent from your photo line up. Hm...

Enjoy being home is your own bed. :)

Larissa

Your pictures are amazing - you have a great eye! I read Maggie's blog too and enjoyed following along on your trip...what a cool experience (except for the lost bags of course:)).

My luggage got lost in San Juan too... on my layover to Anguilla for my Honeymoon no less. But they found it after a day or two. Now I always pack my swim suit in my carry on even if people think I'm insane.

Mrs Chaos

Okay...lost luggage reminds me of the first time I went to Mexico City to visit my husband's family and my luggage was lost. (Or, actually, LAX knew right where it was ALL THE TIME! They just kept NOT putting it on a plane.)

It's such a horrible feeling, ESPECIALLY in an unknown place. Or, you know, a place that is very difficult for a tall, white girl to find clothing. (THAT was an interesting mall trip. And by "interesting" I mean "HORRIFYING.") Luckily, my luggage arrived a few days later...Christmas Day, actually. The best damn Christmas present ever.

So glad that everything turned out so well on your trip and that you had such a fantastic time.

p.s. I totally cried too.

About your most recent post, what if you wrote it out and gave it to Her Bad Mother to post in The Basement anonymously? Then you could get it out, without metaphorically sh!tting where you eat. Just an idea.

I wish I could give you a drink and a hug to help you get to the reset part.

PS - Don't tell the others, but of the Heather/Maggie/Eden gang, you're my favourite.

Must be something in the name Melissa. Three years ago Hubbie and I spent an ungodly amount of money and went on a 9 day cruise. I spent a year shopping finding "great clothes". And for me, finding "great clothes" also meant finding them at a great deal! So imagine my horror when the luggage carousel in San Juan airport stopped moving, we didn't have our luggage, and were left with three other couples (also going on our cruise) that didn't have their luggage either. We were told by Delta that "if" they found our luggage, they would try to fly it to whatever port stop we might be in when it was found. The next 48 hours were a nightmare. I told the poor ship photographers to "Fuck off," as we boarded 30 minutes before the ship left and they asked if we wanted a photo to remember this moment. $5 anitperspirant on board the ship to accompany the complimentary "shaving kit" (a toothbrush, paste, razor and teeny tiny comb). I drank several Cosmos and cried that night. Then a frantic morning in St Thomas at tourist stores trying to replace a 9 day cruise wardrobe-including bathing suits and underwear-without spending entirely too much money. Finally, found a KMart (can't tell you really how HAPPY I was to shop at a Caribbean KMart). After many more crappy hours of trying to have a wonderful time, but just wanting to cry, our luggage showed up. Color me so Happy!

Oh and BTW, when we got back to Atlanta, the Delta automated line told us they still had not located our luggage!

I love your eye for pictures, especially the field of Michigan cacti welcoming you to another part of the world.
