Resolutions: 2010
If I wasn't so positive 2010 was going to be a really good year I may have been concerned by the fact that I've fallen on the ice twice in a span of 3 weeks. The last time was on New Year's Day as I left a friend's Pasta and Meatball Open House. I may have had some wine but, and you can laugh all you want, I've been in denial about winter and I keep wearing my favorite shoes even though they have no traction and I can't really wear socks with them. Like if I keep wearing this tankini, winter will magically stop.
Take That Winter!
So I ended up practically underneath my friend's car on my back thinking, "Maybe people didn't notice."
And right then all my friend's husbands came rushing over to help me back up, making it quite difficult to pretend I didn't just fall beneath a car.
But no, 2010 is just joking with me. Because that's the kind of friends 2010 and I are. We like to joke around, these bruises on my elbows? Oh you know ha ha ha....2010, such a card.
Really I think 2010 is just trying to convince Logan that I don't belong in a place that has ice just waiting to take me out for half the year.
I didn't give myself any goals for last year. I kind of felt like, "Well work isn't going the way I want, we're leaving the neighborhood I've always wanted to live in, oh well, this year's a wash!"
Gee, I just don't know why 2008 didn't work out that well for me.
As a family we've decided first of all to get Gary a bit thinner and boy is he happy about it. I think he's going to eat my arm off in the night and we're only on day 3.
Maddie's goal for this year involves getting a dog (not going to happen, unfortunately) and Max just wants to go to Chicago again.
I assume Logan wants to run until his toenails fall off. Again.
For my new year's goals, I've decided to chip away at some of my Life List
So this year I will:Host a welcome to summer dinner party.
Canoe for a day with a long picnic lunch.
Buy fresh flowers for the house once a week for a year.
Surprise Maddie at school with a huge bunch of balloons on her birthday.
Make our backyard into a bird refuge.
Take the kids to the candy store and give them $10 each to spend as they wish.
Make new Christmas stockings for the whole family.
Find a perfect black dress.
Send birthday greetings to all my friends for one entire year.
Good resolutions. I like the one about bringing balloons to your daughter- -But, doesn't she read this, and isn't any sort of surprise 'foiled'?

She's not supposed to and usually isn't very interested. She's more of a twitter person.

Love your "goals!"
Especially the ones that could have been my own: sending b'day wishes to my friends, the fresh flowers once a week for a year, host a (welcome to) summer dinner party, and find a perfect black dress.
Hey, can I borrow a couple of these?!?!?

I wish you great luck in the birthday greetings for a year. Let us know HOW you do it; despite my mad organization skizzles I passively resolve to do this each year and fail Then I feel guilty and like a slouch when I get a birthday card from someone I didn't send one to.

Ah, those are really terrific resolutions!

We did the candy store thing last year at the beach. Then hired a sitter for the night. EVERYone had a hangover the next day.

Awesome list! Creative, yet totally achievable. Can't wait to read about your progress over the year.
My resolution is to get rid of half the crap in our house. I think your goals are more realistic.
Happy 2010!

If you want a great canoe ride (or, you can tweak it a bit and the kids can tube and you and Logan can canoe), there's a place in Honor, Michigan (Northwest part of Lower Peninsula) that is great. There are several "trips" to choose from depending on how long you want to be in the boat. If you take the long trip, you end up at Lake Michigan where there is a nice little beach. If your picnic lunch wasn't too extravagant, you could totally put it in the canoe and have lunch on the beach. We try to canoe or tube every year there when we go Up North. Here is their link. I love your blog and your list of goals is awesome. Keep up the good work.

Excellent goals, especially love the fresh flower idea. I only have one goal. To find the perfect bra.
I've been wearing the same two bras for the past six years. Yes, they are disgusting. And I'm ashamed to even be wearing them.
Nordstom here I come! With boobs in hand...

I did the birthday greetings several years ago and kept it up. The most satisfying resolution ever. Plus, you're a birthday card rock star.

Canoeing eh? Impressive. I live 50 feet from the ocean and I never even get a little bit inspired when I see the millions of sea kayaks go floating by. Seems like too much of a workout to be any fun ;)

We're not allowed to send flowers, balloons, etc. to school. Which I kind of appreciate, since my daughter's birthday is in the summer and she'd never have the opportunity to get a birthday bouquet (and her half birthday is always during winter break, so that's not happening either). Anyway, I'm glad to see (from your life list) that someone else is having issues in the shoe tying department - I thought we'd never get that one worked out.

I like your list!
I have/had a fat cat. I put him on a diet. He wasn't happy. I figured that I'd use people-logic to satisfy his hunger, and got a bag of mixed frozen vege's to feed him during the in-between times. You know, low calories. Sounds weird, no? well... it worked. He preferred the vege's frozen. He lost the weight, and now he self-regulates and maintains a healthy size.

I made the flower resolution last year, and will probably do it again this year. It was something that made me feel so good!
However, I found that once a week was actually too often. The "old" flowers weren't ready to be disposed of in a week, so I started doing every-other week instead.

....sitting here wishing and waiting for (more) snow your post made me laugh...I have to stop from time to time and remember there are people who don't love winter. Big Grin. Heading to take a look see at your Life List..can't wait.

I like your summer dinner party idea.
I think I'll add that to mine.
Mine is quite short.
Start using reusable grocery bags. No more plastic.
And this only because I'm sick of the grocery sackers stuffing too much in the bags causing a rip and all my groceries spilling in the parking lot and me chasing stuff. *sigh*

2 words for you: Yak Trax. Although I suppose they don't go very well w/ party shoes...

Just thinking about the surprize at school with balloons.. Middle School and Mom with Balloons... hmmmm.
How about filling her room while she sleeps or while she's at school.. She can enjoy it longer and you can buy one of those party tanks and be done with it.. You could do short strings and Happy Birthdays and pictures of her over her life from a few of them
Buy one of those party tanks and go wild with it...

There are not many people whom I could leave this comment for, and know that it is okay. But, after reading you for many years now, I think you will be okay with it. (Don't worry, it's funny)
On NYE, a friend of ours was telling us a cute story of their son questioning how they would do the Year glasses this year (like your 2009 glasses), since there is now a one in the middle of the zeroes. Which then led the conversation where it always does, and the next thing you know, we were calling year 2010 (Two/Boob/Dick/Boob), the Year of the Tittie Fuck. Nice!

I like your idea about the Welcome Summer dinner party. We haven't entertained since our son passed away in July 2008. That may be just the thing to get us back into the entertaining mode.
Does wishing friends Happy Birthday on FaceBook count? That's the only way I seem to get it done.

Be glad you didn't break any bones while falling under the car.
I did this when I was 12. Fell under the back of a parked car, broke my arm. Somehow the ambulance drivers refused to listen when I tried to tell them I was not HIT by the car, this is just where I happened to fall.
I enjoyed being strapped down to a backboard with all sorts of neck/head restraints, let me tell ya.
Thenkfully the only people that 'saw' were some elderly neighbors we didn't know well.
