Spring Cocktails: Mommy, is Uncle Jack visiting?
What’s Jack Daniels doing in my lemonade? Making it delicious! Vodka and lemonade is a great summer refresher, but... Vodka, whiskey and Lemonade is an improvement! The addition of whiskey definitely adds some mettle but it gives the drink a great flavor.
You might think of Lynchburg lemonade when you think of a spiked lemonade recipe and I’m a fan, no lie. The typical Lynchburg recipe combines Jack Daniels, sweet & sour mix, triple sec and sprite and it’s a great summer drink.
If given a choice though, I’ll make my drinks without pre-made mixes. Freshness matters! If you’re really ambitious, here’s a lemonade recipe that looks lovely.
Here’s my “Mommy is Uncle Jack visiting?” recipe:
2oz Bourbon (I used Bulleit for this)
1oz Vodka
Juice of 1/4 lemon
1/2 tsp sugar
Lemonade
Mix bourbon, vodka, lemon juice and sugar in shaker. Pour into full glass of ice and add lemonade. In this way you can make your drink as strong as you wish depending on how much lemonade you add. Enjoy!

I wonder if I could make this for my graduation party in June. Can you do the math for me to make it for 100 people? :)
yum.

Okay, here is where my Britishness is hindering me. When you say lemonade in the ingredients list, do you mean, like, the Newman's lemonade you can buy in a carton? (I'd like to make that shit myself but.....eh. Too lazy.) Or do you mean, like, Sprite or 7-Up? (Which is what I'd call lemonade.) I assume the former, but imagine if I screwed it up!

I just got back from holiday market and I thought WWLD in the spirits aisle (the wife is on some doctor-mandated no gluten diet to cure her migraines so no beer for her this summer). oh, and did you see the article in today's free press about liquor cabinets?
also, I thought of you when I read this:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-watman/picklebacks-bourbon-brine_b_547251.html
I did it the other day (with mcclure's brine no less) and it was indeed amazing. what would it take to get you to try it?

We did discuss the John Daly, right? Sweet Tea Vodka + Lemonade?
Also, the Whiskey Lemonade is not too far off of a Black Eyed Susan, the official drink of the Preakness race. I made a big ol' pitcher this past weekend for the race. Take your recipe, minus the vodka, up the bourbon (or whiskey), add a squeeze of lime, and a dash of OJ. Garnish with mint and a losing ticket from the track.

FYI: In the US, lemonade is sugar syrup and lemon juice. Lemonade in England is a clear, sparkling, lemon flavoured drink that is either drunk as it is or added to lager to make shandy. Seven-up and sprite would both qualify as lemonade in England. In the US, 7-up and Sprite are soda pop.

This sounds amazing. I can't wait to try it. Where do I get a stirrer like yours?
I've never had a lemonade come up in conversation with an Englishperson before so Holly's question threw me for a loop!

Simple syrup will keep in the fridge for several weeks. I make a big batch of it at a time and keep it in the fridge to use for cocktails (mojitos come to mind) and for making fruit sorbets. Yum!

One thing you forgot to mention are those fabulous mugs... my all-time favorite mugs from Crate & Barrel. I store mine in the freezer so they are ready whenever... They make everything taste better!

@Bridget Here's a pitcher recipe (about 10 drinks)
20oz Bourbon
10oz Vodka
30oz Lemonade
2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
4oz lemon juice
Mix everything in a pitcher and add sugar and/or lemonade as required to suit your taste.
Enjoy!
@Lisa Ours go in the freezer too!

You MUST try the Sweet Tea Vodka with Paul Newman's virgin lemonade...it's life altering! (Probably a bit mind-altering as well!)
